Some of you may know what Orange Box is; A collection of 5 games for Steam from Valve. They are:
Half Life 2
Half-Life 2: Episode 1
Half-Life 2: Episode 2
Portal
Team Fortress 2
The first 2 games on that list were already released, and if you already owned either or both, you are now able to give away your virtual copies to a friend.
And since I don't have any friends who don't already own Half-Life 2, who wants it? Leave your email or Steam ID. I believe it has to be your Steam ID and not just the alias you typed in later. The only thing I ask is that you actually have a PC capable of playing HL2.
If anyone else has any virtual copies to give away, mention it in this thread.

I wouldn't mind having this, as I unfortunately haven't played HL2 yet.Mozgus wrote:Some of you may know what Orange Box is; A collection of 5 games for Steam from Valve. They are:

I still need to register for Steam though, and I don't have my new computer yet. Is it ok if I put it in my father's computer for a while, or will they lock it to MAC address or something like that?
Actually now is also a good time to mention that I'd like advice on a new PC (I want to buy a desktop within a week or two). I'll go create a thread.

I've already gifted them to my brother, though the confusing naming scheme got him and he wound up firing up Episode 1 first. D'oh. They really should have just gone with calling it Half Life 3 from the get-go (Gabe always refers to it as such in interviews now a days anyway).
In preparation for Episode 2 hitting in less than 24 hours, I've played through Half Life Source, Half Life 2, and Episode 1 all over again. I was a bit surprised at the play time for the first game in particular, because it wound up only taking me 5.7 hours on this run. Half Life 2 took 9.3 (and that's with skipping damn near all of Highway 17, which no one should do on their first or second playthroughs) and Episode 1 took the expected 3 hours (on the nose).
If I could have found someone interested in playing it, I would have played through Decay as well....I just can't muster up the desire to try to play that solo, though. Seems like it might be a bit too tedious.

I'd rather not give the game to someone who neither uses steam, nor has the machine to run it, unless you're my last resort. I only want to make sure my gift is actually used by my recipient. No offense.Ivo wrote:I wouldn't mind having this, as I unfortunately haven't played HL2 yet.

Steam registers your purchased games and other media to your account, and you can use that account on any machine. If the machine does not have that game, with a couple clicks you can tell it to download and install it for you.

It is obvious that you are wanting to give it to someone that will play it. I will definitively play it, just not this week. I've been wanting to play it for a while, but I doubt my laptop would handle it. I'm getting a new machine very soon - but not necessarily tomorrow because I'm still in the middle of moving out from one place and into another (case in point, I am going to check my new workplace tomorrow). I can register for Steam today though, if it is account specific rather than machine specific. It is up to you though, its your game and your choiceMozgus wrote: I'd rather not give the game to someone who neither uses steam, nor has the machine to run it, unless you're my last resort. Go ahead and register for Steam. Play around on it. It has a ton of free demos and videos much like Xbox Live. Theres a HL2 demo you can try, to gauge your performance, I believe. Let me know how it goes.Ivo wrote:It is obvious that you are wanting to give it to someone that will play it. I will definitively play it, just not this week. I'll give this another day or two and if no one else wants it, it's yours.
I also wanna mention that HL2 is merely the cream of the crop. It's the mods for HL2 that make this such a steal. Especially being free. Dystopia, Insurgency, Minerva, Eternal Silence, Fortress Forever, Insects Infestation, The Hidden, Iron Grip, and Zombie Master are the ones I keep up with.

Wow, there are some nice indie game demos here.Mozgus wrote: Go ahead and register for Steam. Play around on it. It has a ton of free demos and videos much like Xbox Live. Theres a HL2 demo you can try, to gauge your performance, I believe. Let me know how it goes.

Ill check how well HL2 demo runs in this laptop when it finishes downloading. I doubt it can't handle it even if I need to turn some graphics options down for performance - it is only some months old.
