EA wants your $10

Seeing as how EA is going to expand this practice to their other games, I'll just go ahead and say that my days granting them my patronage are over. I don't purchase much from them as it is but this seals the deal. DLC is one thing but this is highwayman like activity.

I'll give my money to companies that don't bone their fans so hard.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Stuff about playing current gen consoles
That seems like a discussion for another thread. I have a lot I could add to why or why not play current gen systems, but I don't want to throw this thread completely off course.

As far as the $10 code goes, I don't really care since I rarely play games online, but I think it's bullshit. Asking for a one time $10 fee for a service is perfectly fine, if you don't like it than don't use the service. But getting an additional fee from a game that already paid the fee, that's bull. Why should they make (for example) $50 off ONE copy of a game, while only $10 from another. If they already got their $10 from a copy of a game, they shouldn't be entitled to another $10 just because the end user changed.

I can understand why a code would be only good for a one time activation, otherwise you could just go online and get a list of codes. But you should be able to deactivate/unregister the code so that it can be registered by another user/console.

This also raises the question... What if (for example) I'm playing a game on my 360 with the code activated, then my 360 bites the dust and I get a new one. Do I have to pay $10 to play online again? Or does the code register with a sign in or something?

a $10 EA user acct wouldn't even be bad... like if you wanna play EA games online, you pay a one-time $10 fee to set up an acct. Then you can play ANY EA games you have.

Yeah, kinda like a little Xbox Live only exclusively for EA games.

Even then, they could still have codes for games, but you'd be able to delete the code from your account so that it could be registered by another user (each code can only be registered once at a time, instead of ONLY once).

But then, EA would have to charge MORE money for hosting accounts and whatnot.

I don't own a current gen, I don't play sports games, and EA has always been the evil empire. They're just jealous Activision took the title away.

Between EA's $10 used game fee, Activision screwing Infinity Ward, and Ubisoft only letting people play their games that are online all the time, it's getting hard for me to want to give any money to these big game companies.

I really have no problems with this. I hold on to my games and buy them all new, so all this would involve is just a tiny bit more setup the first time I want to play online. If they're really smart they'll let you do a web activation tied with some EA account so I can activate at work and then just pop in and play when I get home.

I don't think this is unreasonable at all. Go for it, EA.

I don't really have any objections, I don't really play games online on consoles anyway (asside from Warhawk).

I can understand why EA as a business would like this, but why would you want this as a gamer though? It just means that your games aren't worth as much if you want to ever sell them and that you won't get the full game if you ever buy them used.
