I can't play like Buckethead on a real guitar.

I played the trumpet in 4th and 5th grade just to get out of class and go on the field trips, I shit you not. I was down right terrible and I remember we had a concert once and I just sat there pretending to play looking around. I still got out of class so that's all that matters. :)

I've been playing bass guitar for 15 years. It's my favorite.

It doesn't really do anything for my ego either, just my imagination.

Like most games, Guitar Hero is a fantasy simulation. In the end, I know I'm just another douche jumping around his apartment while freaking out on a Fisher-Price guitar, but for the few minutes I dissociate from reality and get into it, I'm Jimmy-fucking-Hendrix.

Hmmm, I'd played piano and learned some trumpet, but it never really clicked with me. Hopefully I'll be learning how to play and mess with a Synth soon as that's an instrument I've always wanted to play.

I don't even know what mainstream music is anymore...

Besides, it's not that I was hoping that guitar hero will help me play guitar, as I can already easily navigate my way around a guitar due to my bass playing; it's just chords that get me. It's like my brain is hard wired to play single notes. It's like how I can't sing and play bass at the same time as my tounge wags to the bass line and my face controts with it also. I'm told it's very amuzing... But yes; give me any melody and I can play it, but give me some chords and I'll just fuck up.

It's the same on rock band; the say.. 25% of the songs with bass lines worth playing are no problem for me on expert; on bass. But I can't even play Eye of the Tiger on guitar on anything above Medium difficulty. It's chords.

But the general consensus is that, while playing Guitar Hero will be much fun, it won't teach my brain to allow me to play chords. Shame.

I play Bass and Keyboard. I'm not terribly proficient with either, as I've never taken any formal lessons or music classes, so everything is pretty much self-taught.

I played bass a lot when I was like 13-16, and was in a (shitty) band in I think 8th/9th grade, then kinda stopped playing. Then about a year ago I tried picking up guitar, only to realize that all those years of playing bass with my fingers rendered me completely incompetent with a pick, so I said fuck it and started playing bass again. I'm not that heavily into it right now, but I pick it up at least a few times a week and play for a bit.

Then, a couple months ago, I picked up the keyboard I had lying around my house, pretty much solely to learn a few video game songs (specifically, I wanted to learn The Day The World Revived). However, I've really been enjoying it and now have been learning songs across different genres, and have been playing pretty much every day.
I'm known as ZebetiteGlitch or Zeza Von Thantos on other platforms.

some valid points. one thing that irritates me about guitar hero and rock band is that people think that they can actually play these instruments (especially drums). being a drummer, it irritates me to no end when someone goes 'yeah i can play drums on hard on rockband, so i can play drums). theres so much more to it than hitting some colored pads. I can agree that you can learn the very basic fundementals of keeping a beat, but you cant learn to play a kit very well just with rock band.

to me, there is nothing more awesome than playing on stage infront of people. Ive played for 10 people, ive played for 6,000 people, and I've always had a great time.
Ive been gigging for 7 years, Opened up and hung out with some of my favorite bands, juts about pulled my hair out over some really awful experiences with asshole promoters and club owners...but its all worth it in the end. In the words of Frank Zappa....Music is the BEST.
