Oh, Mortal Kombat games...sure, I own a few.

SNES

Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat 2
Mortal Kombat 3
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

Nintendo 64

Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Mortal Kombat 64

PlayStation 2

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

I also fully expect I will pick up Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe at some point, though I'll wait for it to get relatively cheap first.

So I technically own one of every release of the fighting game, with the exception of MK: Deception and Vs. DC.

Mortal Kombat II is by far my favorite out of the series, and is my favorite fighting game. Which brings to mind, Shaolin Monks. Such a great game, and it is the story of MKII so it's double good for me. Also includes a pretty good port of MKII as a bonus (though the PSN port is the best in my opinion).

Speaking of that, I came across this last night...

http://snesorama.us/board/showthread.php?t=42363

Some one hacked together MK1, 2 and 3 for the PS2. Basically, they extracted MK1 from the Deadly Alliance Premium Pack, MK2 from Shaolin Monks, and Ultimate MK3 from Armageddon Limited Edition version. So besides MK2 on Shaolin Monks, those games are hard to get because of them being limited edition versions. Too bad the hacker didn't also include MK3 from Midway Arcade Treasure, but I guess it would have been redundant because of Ultimate MK3. Some times I like to play the original MK3 for nostalgic reasons.

So anyway, the MK1 version is suppose to be "arcade perfect" port. Some people complain that it isn't because it was sped up. I actually think the speed up makes the game more playable than it was before. So in my opinion, this is the best home version of the game.

MK2 from Shaolin Monks is also sped up, which I'm not crazy about. As I said, I think the PSN version is the best (home) version. I'm not sure how good the UMK3 port is since I haven't played much of the arcade version. I was playing it for a while on PS2 last night though, and I don't notice any problems.

Damn. That girl dressed up like Kitana has a nice but. A little big without being too wide. I give her my stamp of approval.

Back on topic, My favorite Mortal Kombat game is either Mortal Kombat 1 for arcade or Genesis or Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for DOS. I liked MK1 on Gen for the obvious reason that it had the blood which the SNES version lacked. This is the game that had members of Congress up in arms. UMK3 for DOS had so many unlockable features and Easter eggs I could play for weeks and still discover new things.

My least favorite game was definitely Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero for Playstation. Keep in mind that I really love beat 'em ups. The controls in this game are simply awful. I was so disappointed by this game I never bought another Mortal Kombat game again.

I'd take the Sega CD port over the Genesis port.

I liked this game. The controls ARE awful, but for only one reason. You have to push a button to turn around!? What the hell? If they would have just made it like a regular MK game, or any platformer (press left to go left, press right to go right) it would have been just fine (as far as the controls go). OK, it's great that if you press back you back up. But they should have made you have to hold a button down to back up, not have to press a button to turn around. That's pathetic!

If you want to play an action/adventure type of MK game, you should play Shaolin Monks. I thought this game was absolutely fantastic.
