I've not played Guitar Hero a whole lot, but I will say that I think it has improved my rhythm. My natural sense of time is pretty awful. Otherwise I don't think you'll learn anything from Guitar Hero.
Do you play any instruments?

The web's first video game public library! http://videogameexperiment.com rents all games for free and sells them for less than Ebay and Amazon! Plus we take anything in on trade-in.

Not when compared to playing a real guitar.videogameexperiment wrote: I think it improves finger dexterity also.
*EDIT* By that, I mean both that dexterity gains from playing Guitar Hero do not really translate to an actual guitar, and that actually playing guitar requires a lot more manual dexterity than playing guitar hero.

Re: Do you play any instruments?
Playing guitar hero is quite similar to playing a bass for the vast majority of mainstream music. Put simple, mainstream music = shitty bass.videogameexperiment wrote:I think it improves finger dexterity also.Limewater wrote:It won't.MikeyW wrote: I'm interested to see if Guitar Hero II over the summer may help.

Playing guitar hero isn't anything like playing a guitar. If you are good at guitar then generally you'll be pretty competent at guitar hero. I was able to play the most difficult songs on expert the first time I ever played the game in the store (IE Cowboys from Hell and Bark at the Moon, it helped slightly that I could play the songs in real life, but only because I knew what was coming, the note paths are pretty unrealistic). However the two aren't mutually exclusive. If you are good at Guitar Hero you are going to suck at guitar. You're going to suck at playing ANY instrument for that matter.

I hate Guitar Hero.
Re: Do you play any instruments?
I did too, at first. I got it because my wife liked it when she tried it at her brother's house. It grew on me after I played it a little. It's not blow-me-away awesome or anything, but it's alright. It's the only rhythm game I think I've ever played, though, except for one horribly failed attempt at DDR.Ziggy587 wrote:I hate Guitar Hero.

Did you see my post on Carlos D?Niode wrote:I play bass as well as guitar, and in certain types of music such as Reggae, Jazz, Dub; I actually prefer it. It's a shame that a lot of 'guitarists' think that they're above playing bass. They think it's a dumbed down form. The think it's unbecoming of them. They think they are superior. A piece of music will always be enhanced by a talented bass player. Rather than somebody who just thumbs the root. Those 'bassists' give actual bass players a bad name.Ziggy587 wrote:Eh, yeah, I get it. But who says they play "bass guitar"? No one. Don't you know any bassists? They're a proud people. I'm sure they wouldn't want to be classified under guitar. Besides, what if you play an upright bass? Surely that isn't a type of guitar.

Don't be hatin'. I play a real guitar as well as other instruments and I think the game is fun. You play videogames in order to entertain your imagination.
Re: Do you play any instruments?
I have an old monophonic synthesizer I play in my room since guitars are boring and difficult.
I've got my crown and I've got my scepter.

Yeah, but I also write music / play instruments to entertain my imagination! Guitar Hero is just a toy guitar. It's kinda like playing with a toy car when you could be driving one. And I know the analogy is flawed because you could say, "Well, what about racing/driving games?" I don't know how to put my feelings into words. While I could be driving a real car, driving games allow you to do things that you can NOT do in real life (race at 120mph, crash into cars, people, etc). Well, you COULD do those things in real life, but you know what I'm saying.Devezu wrote:Ziggy587 wrote:I hate Guitar Hero.

All that aside, I just don't think the game is fun.
And I realize the game might be fun for some one that doesn't play guitar at all, but that's not the case with me.
And I don't mean to come off like an ass hole about it, and I hope you don't get a "I'm superior!" vibe from this post, because I don't mean it like that. It's just how I, personally, feel about the game.
