As everybody knows, spammers are the lowest scum on the internet; hacking into accounts, illegally advertising things that are probably illegal themselves, and all kinds of things that make you want to find the nearest tree and hang the worthless motherfuckers. I hate them now more than ever.
I've been having a miserable last couple weeks on the internet. Why? Because my online accounts have been getting hacked and exploited one after another. First, my main email account was hacked, and spam was sent to everyone on my contact list. It was annoying and embarrassing, but at least it wasn't dangerous. Then, yesterday, my Amazon account was hacked, and someone ordered a bunch of expensive stuff on it. Luckily, I was able to cancel all the orders before they were paid for, and change my account password. That's when I started to get scared. Now, I just found out today that some of my accounts on different forums have been hacked, too; someone put spam in my signature. Although, I'm pretty sure how this is happening. My Dad is in Africa on a business trip right now for a few months, and his accounts online have been getting hacked a lot worse and more frequently than mine, and we both think that some hackers have gotten to me via him. This really just pisses me off to know that no matter how safe I am on the internet, this shit can still happen. I'm doing some things differently now; whenever I send an email to him, I use a different web browser with no prior personal information, and I'm installing a different antivirus software [this is probably irrelevant, but it's worth a shot, anyway]. Is there anything I can do when the culprit is likely not a virus itself, but is still accessing my various internet website accounts?
Also, in the case that this hacker somehow gets into my Racketboy account [God forbid] and starts causing trouble, please let me know, so I can change the password to it.

Check your machine carefully for spyware and viruses. Once that's done, change ALL of your passwords. Don't wait until some fucktard has used it to send out shit.lisalover1 wrote:*snip*

Be proactive and cancel any credit cards you might have used on your computer. Assume everything is compromised until you can prove otherwise.

Your best bet would be to format the drive and start anew. And for goodness sake use some real anti-spyware software your antivir is never enough.

When they gained access to your email account that's how they gained access to everything else.
A friend of mine didn't believe how easy it is to gain control over EVERYTHING via the internet and an email account. I told her, give me 30 minutes and I'll have access to everything. Within 10 minutes I had full access to her mail order company, ebay, amazon, facebook and myspace accounts. All through guessing her password by looking at her public facebook page. She was dumb-founded. I made her change all her passwords and told her to remove all information that can be used to recover accounts from her public facebook profile. If I can do it within 10 minutes, anybody can.

I remember when I broke into a friend house through their letterbox, and helped myself to a cup of tea. All I used was a small length of chain. His girlfriend was pissed - but at least they started deadlocking the front door!

This is one of those things that concerns me about modern technology. Someone can easily get a hold of a lot of your important information and do a lot of damage without even having to be on your side of the world. And like Niode said, hacking into an email account (and then throughout an entire system) is cake.

That's ok, most people save criminals the trouble and just put all their information on Facebook.Dylan wrote:This is one of those things that concerns me about modern technology. It is truly amazing to me that people are so careless. Facebook (or really anywhere on the internet) is not a good place for you to put information. I haven't ever really run into this type of trouble on the internet, but I sense the looming possibility of it.Hobie-wan wrote: That's ok, most people save criminals the trouble and just put all their information on Facebook.
