I guess I will look into those controllers. I was thinking about checking out the Razer Onza when it comes out.noiseredux wrote:Hori knows what the F they're doing...sevin0seven wrote:

i think it is safe to say any game played with the 360 d-pad will suck a fatty.
i bought ultimate mortal kombat 3 on xbla and played only a few fights b/c the d pad is horrendous. i also can't play metal slug 3 with the 360 controller. it is impossible to shot up without running to the left or right.

I agree here, but back to consoles...Hobie-wan wrote:Ooh, I get to be that guy.![]()

I've had the same issue many folks here have had with fighting games on their Xbox 360 Vs their PS3. In my case however, I discovered the problem while in training mode in Virtua Fighter 5. I've been playing the VF series for a while now, having first tried it back in the mid-90s in the arcade but only really getting into it about 2002. I would spend hours building up combo strings and trying to get the hang of certain throws, eventually picking what I liked to use and discarding what I didn't(I tend to do this with a lot of fighting games, where I figure out what moves I like and stick with them). In the end I spent a lot of time in training.
When VF5 comes out, a friend picks it up on the PS3, and I greatfully try it out. And while I wasn't so comfortable with the R2 and L2 buttons at first, once I get over it I have no issues with the controller. But I ended up getting a 360 first, so when I bought VF5, I purchased it in a little green box. Playing it wasn't terrible, but after a couple of minutes in training mode I discovered that there were certain moves I had much easier time pulling off with the analog stick, and then there were certain moves I just could not pull off. On the PS3? No issues. But the 360's D-pad feels more like a crappy analog stick than an actual D-pad.
Moral of the story: stick with arcade sticks or Hori pads for your 360.

Oh yeah, that reminds me, Super Metroid on VC is virtually unplayable for me. There's also a delay in it that makes trying to do any precise movement nearly impossible.Jrecee wrote:Anyone played sonic 1 or 2 on Xbox 360? The delay between button presses and your movement destroys the game. I don't know how they managed to screw up something so simple. Does the 360 have pressure sensitive buttons? Maybe he only responds when you've fully pressed the button. Either way it sucks. Hopefully that won't be an issue with Sonic 4.

Re: Games you enjoyed better on one console because of controls
I had a LOT more fun with C&C 3 on PC than I did on 360, all due to the controls. It was easier there, too, and I was playing on a harder difficulty setting.
I also enjoyed Sonic CD more on PC than on Gamecube. On PC, I can use the arrow keys, but on GCN I have to use either the tiny, uncomfortable d-pad, or the never-good-for-2D-games analog stick.

Zelda Twilight Princess comes to mind: the wii swordplay felt unresponsive, making the GC version the only way to play.
I won't play Brawl without a GC controller. Street Fighter 2 feels better with the six face buttons of a genesis than a SNES gamepad.
Most valve games feel better without a standard controller imo (most people agree the genre is superior on PC, but I only seem to agree when it comes to valve games).
I sometimes prefer games on a DS Phat over the lite, just because the buttons feel a bit less laggy, but that is nitpicking.
Completely unrelated, Laserdisc > DVD.

ooh good call. To be honest, the stupid Wii-mote-only control scheme on many games is what's been keeping me away from the Wii. It should just be optional if you want to use a GC controller instead.

Almost every game I've played is better on a mouse and keyboard and if ever given the option (as long as the port is halway decent) I'll go for the pc version. My favorite game controllers are the Saturn Model 2 and DualShock.
