I play bass as well as guitar, and in certain types of music such as Reggae, Jazz, Dub; I actually prefer it. It's a shame that a lot of 'guitarists' think that they're above playing bass. They think it's a dumbed down form. The think it's unbecoming of them. They think they are superior. A piece of music will always be enhanced by a talented bass player. Rather than somebody who just thumbs the root. Those 'bassists' give actual bass players a bad name.

I was going to try to drop a skin flute joke, but think about a little bit more... for you to be playing the skin flute you'd have to be using your mouth. And as it might be a little difficult to play your own flute, considering the other options, I think I'd have to raise an eyebrow to this comment. Maybe it should read, "My wife is mad at me because I play the skin flute"

I don't play any instruments.
This would be a good time to insert a quote from the movie "Clerks".

I took piano lessons when I was younger and got as far as power chords on guitar (I didn't get far, obviously!). Also, ironically, I played the flute in grade 9 music class.

I am the one vote for flute on the poll. My grandfather played flute in the army band and his flute was handed down to me to play when I was in middle school. I was teased relentlessly for playing that thing since it was perceived as a girl's instrument. I hated my flute for awhile because of that, but it's actually a pretty cool instrument, especialy when you start getting that breathy jazz flute sound going.

I mostly play piano and keyboards though. I was in a percussion ensemble in high school, so I'm also adept at the mallet instruments (marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, glockenspeil, tubular bells) and I've played various drums like timpani, snare, bass, gong, etc. Though, I've never worked out the coordination to play drum set with anything more than a very basic rock beat.

I also know my way around a sequencer, drum machine, sampler, and various other techno gadgetry.

I seriously doubt this many of you play instruments; lying on the internets don't make it true!

Yeah, the combination of Jethro Tull and the episode on Star Trek: TNG where Captain Picard is living an alternate life on anther planet and playing the flute make me want to learn it in my mandatory high school music class. Plus, the other flute players in the class were cute chicks!

I've never actually played the skin flute... I can't, as my neck isn't that flexible.

Bass guitar since I was 18, which would make that... almost 4 years now D:

A yummy instrument indeed.

I dabble with my brother's old electric guitar but I'm useless at chords. I get frustrated when a song I can play so easily on bass guitar becomes impossible due to a few easy chords; so I haven't gotten far with that... ¬_¬

I'm interested to see if Guitar Hero II over the summer may help.

It won't.

I've not played Guitar Hero a whole lot, but I will say that I think it has improved my rhythm. My natural sense of time is pretty awful. Otherwise I don't think you'll learn anything from Guitar Hero.
