How long will cd's last?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

DVD Decryptor is more of a legacy product. I use DVDFab7 nowadays but it's a commercial product.

Using DVDFab7, it's about as fast as your DVD drive can read the discs. Note of course this is just CSS removal, the video itself is not altered in any way. Ripping to MPEG4 (DivX, Xvid, H.264) takes considerably longer. But since blank DVD±Rs are cheap why bother?

Probably because dual-layer DVDs and DVD burners aren't cheap. Many (Most?) commercial releases are on dual-layer DVDs and end up too large to fit on a single-layer disc without re-encoding.
Systems: TI-99/4a, Commodore Vic-20, Atari 2600, NES, SMS, GB, Neo Geo MVS (Big Red 4-slot), Genesis, SNES, 3DO, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GBA, GCN, NDSi, Wii

Actually pretty cheap now. Dual Layer burners are the norm. Especially in light of Blu-Ray shadowing in the background.

Wow. I guess I haven't really priced them lately. They have come down in price a lot.

Does that Macthing have a USB port? You can always get an external drive to prolong the internal's lifespan.

Good point. All Macs have USB ports, even have one in my old iMac CRT. Drives are durable, but the cheap external would save mileage on that internal laptop drive when burning lots of discs. Maybe an hour per DVD-R.
