So... I just made my first arcade stick!

Post by fvgazi »

I've made an xbox 360 arcade stick. I'm mainly going to use it for fighting games and the occasional shmup/beat-em up on arcade. The artwork was inspired by various jazz record art from the 40's - 60's.

The whole project should've taken me about 3 or 4 days, but it took over a month because my previous apartment flooded and I had to move out. Not to mention I broke a few sheet of acrylic (plexi) before I got the right tools. I switched over to polycarbinate when I got too frustrated.

I have next to no experience in wood working, and beginner soldering skills. The only two things I've ever modded before were my Saturn and my friend's xbox (which I did soldering + flashing / installing crap). My visual art skills are not too great either.

Next time i'd like to work on some wire management and do some routing on the wood.

I'm planning on doing a stick for my saturn or ps2 next. Anyone else have experience in making sticks?

Looks pretty good for a first go to me. :)

One suggestion though, you need to secure that cord. The first time someone trips on it they'll destroy the wiring. For a quick and dirty fix, get some of those nail or screw in wire clamps for ethernet cables. Loop the cable and use 2 to attach the cord to the inside of the stick right next to the exit.

Something like these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 602_263622

Just make sure to make a loop or a zig zag. Look at the cord going into another pad for an example.

Agree, get that wiring clamped off. No worries on spaghetti inside the controller, if it works who cares!

Am I the only nut with a patient wife that keeps all the consoles on a huge coffee table in front of me?
I hate going back in forth to switch games and controllers, everything within couch potato reach.
Tied to 3 switch boxes and lots of 25 foot Component, S-Video and Composite cables.
