Atari 7800 European controller

Post by milkmanv1 »

Quick question, can anyone tell me a good place to get a European 7800 pad. The one that looks kinda like a beefy nes pad? Me and my dad are getting really sick of the 2600 pad for stuff like miner 2049 where the stick is just so stiff it hurts to keep jamming it to the left and right.

This is a good question becuase I would love one too. Modding a Genesis or SMS controller just looks like a pain and I am lazy. I was playing Xevious on my 7800 and after about 6 minutes my wrists starting hurting.

"Sigh Atari couldn't have made it the same pinset as the Genesis could they?"

I got a couple a few months back thanks to someone on here providing a link to a Spanish seller's Buy-it-Now listings. With shipping and currency conversion at the time, it was under $25 for two. They're probably a little cheaper now because of the change in currency values. Anyway, I contacted them before I bought and asked about shipping. They took a little while to get here, but the controllers are new and in great shape. I really recommend them. They seem a little small at first, but I've gotten used to them and they are definitely my favorite joystick/joypad controllers for the Atari. I don't have any old joysticks and don't really want them at this point, and using Genesis or SMS pads on an Atari system just never felt quite right. Here's the ebay link:

If you don't want to do ebay, Best Electronics has a hideous-looking website which offers 7800 joypads for $17 apiece.

Great link!

They have my favorite 2600 compatible stick the Wico bat handle. Works great for single button 7800 games.
If you are ambitious you could mod those two buttons to work independent to support 7800 dual button.

I really want that 7800 controller from Best Electronics. I wish their website wasn't total crap! It's really hard to find things. Oh well. Just to be sure they are a good seller and I wont get ripped off will I? I don't buy anything online from people I'm not sure about. And is 17 bucks a good price for it?

I've heard good things about Best Electronics and they've been around for a long time so I'd take that as a good sign, especially since Atari products are such niche business.

$17 is a pretty good price. Not great, but okay. You'd do better with that eBay seller from Spain who I has 100% feedback and who I had a good experience with. I bought two for what it probably would have cost to buy one from Best. I know not everyone wants to deal with eBay though.
