damaged manuals

Post by JC48573 »

how do you deal with manuals that have been damaged by water? I've been receiving quite a few games with warped manuals.

What about The Damage Manual?

If you accidentally get a manual wet, if you can get the pages separated while they're still pretty wet and then have them dry where they're not touching they're usually at least readable but once they dry stuck together they're beyond hope. Even re-wetting them has never helped when I've tried.

Shooting darts, but maybe cloth or wax paper between iron and the slightly damp individual pages to avoid burning?

I heard that freezing the pages works. Haven't tried it myself, though.

If you tried to iron the paper directly one page at a time, you'll just burn and scrape them up. If you were to put pages between some cloth, you'll just end up steaming them. While they're damp, they might flatten out a bit, but they'll probably wrinkle up again as they dry. Plus if they're pressed flat against the cloth they might end up sticking to the cloth depending if it is cotton or polyester or whatever. If the book has already dried into a wrinkled brick, it's probably pretty much gone.
