Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

PS3 Conspiracy Other OS

Post by benderx »

Many of you already know about sony removing linux OS option. Do PS3 developers need Linux to make make PS3 games (probably im wrong or somewhat right). I'm thinking people who make the ps3 games still have "other OS" still available to them secretly (exclusive contract). Because I remember some Apple developers had exclusive updates before public release. PS3 was literally a computer and gaming console and company say it "SCEA" "Sony Computer Entertainment of America"

All Sony has to do is update their OS option.

I could be right/ totally wrong, just a thought that came into my mind.

No, PS3 development hardware is completely different (OS wise) Than the commercial PS3 consoles. and No, PS3 dev's do not need linux.

I could be wrong, but I thought that the ps3 O.S. was created from a linux distro.

Techincially, you COULD say that they need it, but that's a bit of a stretch. After examining the PS3's OS, hackers have been able to find that it is very likely that it is based off Linux, but this has nothing to do with otherOS. On a side note, I still refuse to update my PS3, despite the fact that GeoHot hasn't opened his yap in over a month.

Game devs use a special dev kit for development and testing. You can sometimes see dev kits on ebay for older consoles; I remember one member snagging a Dreamcast dev console. These consoles would have their own set of updates and a completely different version of the PS3 firmware.
