Corrupt Data on PS2 Memory Card

Post by Flake »

So my girlfriend scored a copy Katamari Damacy. It made her real happy because, well, she likes that kind of stuff.

So she starts playing it, saves once to an official memory card, turns off the system properly, comes back and the data is corrupted.

So here's my questions:

-Is this a hardware issue or a problem with Katamari Damacy?

-Can corrupted data be removed from the memory card? (Already tried manual delete)

-If the corrupted data cannot be removed, is this going to cause the memory card problems down the line?

Thanks all,
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

you might need a new memory card.

when GTA:SA first came out i was absolutely addicted. i logged in about 30 hours in the first day. sounds impossible, but i somehow did it. the next day my game wouldn't load due to 'corrupt data' or some shit like that. i was able to delete it from my memory card, but it kept on happening time and time after that. i finally caved and bought a new one and have had no problems since.

so i don't think its the game, just a pissed off memory card that doesn't want to corporate.

Nothing wrong with the game, just a memory card glitch, maybe contacts a little dirty. Unplug-plug a few times.
Copy the good saves to another memory card then format it with Action Replay memory utility.

Unfortunately, I am Action Replay-less at this time. I lent it to someone a while back and didn't remember doing that till just now...and he's in Japan.

I'll check the contacts but the fact that the game specifically recognizes the corrupted data as its own doesn't bode well, I don't think.

But just to be clear: This is a problem that is likely to get worse, yes?

A maybe, you do want to clean up the memory card with a format to be sure.

The problem lies with the memory card. I would also recommend as it has been mentioned backing up your saves to another memory card and format original memory card.

The only game I've heard of that is supposed to be problematic in how it saves is Soul Calibur III.

It sounds like you have something wrong with the memory card. Time for a backup.

I was just reading the other day that a lot of copies of Jak X: Combat Racing (including the later Greatest Hits re-release) caused many memory cards to be wiped out or corrupted. Worst of all, both SCEA and Naughty Dog refused to take any responsibility for corrupted data. WTF? So who should we blame then... Roger Rabbit?
