They've got plenty of time to screw it up, though.

Hell, I'd rather go back to 2.
Don't forget RE5's inventory system... even though we'd all like to.

Capcom still tosses out some impressive titles. Its not the actual content of what they produce that is proving itself irksome, but how they are doing it. More than any other company, they seem to be branching into micro-transactions (Namco is hot to follow). In short, they sell you a game, pack a bunch of content onto the disc, and then expect you to pay 4.99 the day after launch to unlock it.

Silliness.

And weren't they the other company that started to introduce DRM on top of Sony's fairly reasonable model?

I'm still waiting for a Power Stone 3.

Im glad we can agree on this and that someone shares my opinions on the matter. RE5 just didn't feel right. There was an awkward shine to everything like Chris was constantly sweating. I wasn't a big fan of Sheva either. Needs more tank controls and puzzles hard ones not go find 2 trinkets and put them together to unlock doors.

Are you talking about how Magic Sword needs to stay online just to play single player?

the7k wrote:Capcom's problem is that they have gone EXTREMELY Lowest-Common-Denominator. Aside from Tatsunoko vs Capcom, I've seen zero chances being taken by Capcom - and even TvC was still an entry in the Versus series, which is obviously supremely popular.

It's a trend I've seen spreading to a lot of companies, honestly, but it's most fiercely felt in the once-original Capcom.
Honestly this is my biggest problem. Capcom used to crank out classic and original titles at every turn, but now they've simply stopped dead in their tracks. Yeah, we get a few hits here and there, but it's truly painful to watch some of my favorite series stagnate and/or go discontinued.

I guess profit analyses show that the OP wasn't too far off the mark:

Though, after their recent unveils of what's coming next year, I think they will be back in top form shortly.

I don't think they've lost it. Super Street Fighter IV and Monster Hunter Tri just came out and Lost Planet 2 will be released next week?

Lost Planet 2 is an okay game, but hardly compares to the other top-rated TPS's of this generation. It suffers from the same design issues most of Capcom's big budgeters seem inclined on having.

Is there any objective analysis into the failure of Clover's games? Insufficient marketing?

And I'd appreciate it if you stopped bringing up SSF4. It's great but it's still a sequel to a sequel to yet other sequels with minor changes and tweaks. Now as mentioned previously if they made PowerStone 3 with groundbreaking gameplay elements that would be something to be excited about.
