What would you do to revive the arcade?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Yeah... I work at a GameStop, and me and my coworkers often talk about the arcade games we played back in the day. Many times, kids will ask us what an arcade was. Hell, sometimes, people in their late teens-early twenties will tell us that they've never even been to an arcade.

It's just like - my God. How on earth can these people even say they have lived?

Please don't say this...
maybe they have been living under a rock or something...

I hate feeling old, its impossible that 20 year olds never saw arcades, there are still some places with arcade machines...at least around here

My youngest brother is 18. I recently started talking to him about my game collection, and then said I'd really like to build a personal arcade at some point to recapture the feel of it when we were younger. He looked at me and said he didn't remember going into any arcades. That really bugged me, but then I thought about it...he was in middle school when all of the arcades here dried up and died out.

The only place that has arcade machines around here anymore is a Chuck E Cheese that opened up not too long ago.

In that way, it's kinda more worrying that the kids don't know of arcades than the teens. Teens at least have the excuse of never bothering to go to a Chuck E Cheese.

But the teens were children just a few years ago. Chuck E. Cheese has been around for decades.

Not in my town. It just sprang up.

Keep in mind, my town is about as exciting as the Mid West. Chuck E Cheese is the biggest thing to hit it in about 15 years.

And of course, they never went away in Japan.

I want some crazy ass imports!

Comes to think of it, most of you Americans know Guitar Hero, etc, but give blank looks when asked about GuitarFreaks [ditto PercussionFreaks AKA DrumMania] No imports for you.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

I imagine Kiwi's would give the exact same blank look.

SO my buddy teaches spanish to kids over at this local whatever the fuck school. He is pretty into the community there and when he can, he also watches a handful of boys who don't really have anywhere else to go after school. You know- trying to keep them out of trouble in philadelphia.

He gave me a call a month or so ago. The kids love video games and wanted to see if he could bring them by. Check out the collection and play some games. I was down. They came by. One was like 8 and i think the other 2 were like 10 or something i don't know.

So they get up to the arcade that i have and turn and look at me and say.....

"how does it work?"
...I used to think my heart was made of stone until I read that.
