Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

DRM Finally done right, thanks to SEGA

Post by ZeroAX »

Finally after EA, Ubisoft, 2K have been a huge pain, with their DRM treating paying customers as criminals, and after many years, actually managing to give pirates ethical reasons for what they do , the great minds at Sega (minus the sonic team ofc) are finally coming up with a DRM method that is not a pain in the ass, has actually a way to validate your game if you don't have an internet connection (going to guess it's via phone here), the best of all, they promise to completely remove DRM 2 years after the release of the game.

don't know how much it will combat piracy (then again how much do other DRM solutions combat it?) but I'm buying this game on the PC just to reward Sega for their great business tactic that treats customers like people. Best of all if they really DO remove the DRM you can sell your PC games again on ebay.

Its a start but still on probation for two years before innocent customer is free.
That is if the DRM is really truly removed after the hiatus.

If they promise to remove the DRM after 2 years, I'll promise to consider buying it in 2 years.

Sounds an awful lot like registering Windows XP. I don't plan on getting the game, but it seems reasonable enough.

DRM is silly altogether. Give me one game that has made it really hard for pirates to distribute and install? None. It only hurts people that buy the game legit since the pirate versions just skip or have no DRM at all.
Thanks everyone...

Getting better. At least I can considering purchasing the games in 2 years, instead of being unable to do so forever. Basically they are just pushing the release dates back 2 years. That's how I read it.

Curiosity:

Knowing that they will lift the DRM in two years, does that mean that you'll go ahead and pirate it before then, or will you wait two years and then consider buying it?
