I borrowed my brother's "flight-sim" joystick as I wanted to play Freelancer (been a while since I played a "space sim" - Freelancer from 2003 seems like a good bet. I should also see if I finish Privateer 2 one of these days). But I also saw the boxed Independence War and thought that as it was older I maybe should be playing this first so to not get spoiled by the more modern graphics.
Anyone here played I-War?

Anyone played Independence War (PC, around 1998)?
Re: Anyone played Independence War (PC, around 1998)?
I only played it briefly back when it was fairly new. But the physics system in I-War made it a load of fun. It took some getting used to, but you could pull some crazy maneuvers. At least at the time no other space sims had physics that tried to be accurate to space like I-War did.
Re: Anyone played Independence War (PC, around 1998)?
I'm having some curious issue at mission "Evacuation". I can never save Evac3. I don't need to in order to complete the mission, but regardless of getting near to the thing in time, it always blows up. I wonder if there's a bunch of hard to see missiles hitting it?
Maybe it is a scripted thing? In the end of the mission there's only a handful of people left to evac and it's possible to personally get them out of there without the third transport (they make a big deal out of it), so maybe it really is impossible to stop it from blowing up.

Re: Anyone played Independence War (PC, around 1998)?
I feel Freelancer is better played using a mouse, but if you enjoy it using a stick all the better! I haven't tried the original I-War but I got stuck in the sequel early on, uninstalled it and years later when I tried playing it again the disc was unreadable
It seems there's no patch for this game. Here's the official forum maybe someone will chime in.

Re: Anyone played Independence War (PC, around 1998)?
I'm *completely* stuck on a mission in Defiance, the expansion pack.
If anyone here got past "Switcheroo", I am totally unable to get even 1 cargo pod switched without getting detected. I found no help anywhere on the web, the only post I found in a forum was about how to manually dock the pods.
If I undock a pod from the Navy freighter - detected. If I try to get the green pods near the freighter so that the undocking is noticed less - detected. I tried moving them slowly (speed under 200, speed under 100); I tried moving them in turns (move a bit one, move a bit another one, etc. alternating on all 4 non-Navy cargo pods to move them more or less as a group). I tried moving them sort of along the inert cargo pods that are hanging around and you can't remote control.
I tried everything I could think of, retried the mission over 30 times surely.
Help!

I actually just picked up I-War from GOG, but haven't had a chance to play it yet. After reading the manual, though, I was completely sold on it.

Oh, you have about 30 missions of the original plus 6 of the expansion (if you even have the expansion) before you get to "Switcheroo". You could start on the expansion, but I wouldn't advise that.MrPopo wrote:I actually just picked up I-War from GOG, but haven't had a chance to play it yet. I registered on GOG to put my question on their forum. Maybe someone there can help me; in the GOG forum there is even this fellow "Ravenger" which was on the team that made it.
