Wish you had the case and manual for the game huh?
Wish you had the case and manual for the game huh?
Yea, I've only bought some games incomplete but I always ended up trying to find the missing parts online. I don't think that happens a lot where a seller would have the manual or case you want, especially for rare games. I did find quite a few for square enix games. what about the sellers out there when it comes around selling an incomplete game? does it take forever or do you ever sell them at all?

Yeah, this is a pain in the ass. I recently got Grandia and all four discs of the Arc the Lad Collection, but no cases to go with them.
I highly doubt I'm going to be able to find cases for them anytime soon. There are probably more discs than cases for any given game, because there are those people who, for some insane reason, throw the cases away and keep the discs in a folder or spindle.
I've been on the selling side too, when I upgrade from a disc only copy to a CIB copy. It's very easy to sell "disc only" copies, if you just start an ebay auction at 99 cents and let the market do its work.

Found ICO for the PS2 in nice shape for $2 but it didn't have the manual.
I'm hoping one day I'll come across one somewhere for cheap.

But games with a disc missing (like buying FFIX with disc 4 missing) is a way to get hold of a game that normally cost a bit, for much cheaper and doesnt take that much more effort to get hold of the loose disc.

The only two conditions under which I will ever buy a game without a case:
1. Cartridge games, of course. [Except the Master System].
2. The game is unbelievably rare, and even then, I'll have to think it over.
That way, I don't have to agonize over finding the case and manual later. I still have a few PS2 games from when I was young that don't adhere to this standard, and I really regret buying them like that; the generic Gamestop case looks very ugly on a shelf.

The only times I'd ever buy a game without the case is if I can never find it anywhere, and only if the case is available to buy elsewhere. There's one website in particular that specializes in selling game cases, boxes and manuals: http://videogameinstructionbooklets.com. They only do more recent games, though (DS, Wii, PS3, Xbox 360) with a few older titles for the GBA and such.

I recently lucked out and grabbed a longbox manual for Raiden Project - the only time I've ever bought a game piece by piece. I got the disc first, then the box, and finally the manual. (each about 4-5 months apart). The sum total of everything was probably less that I'd have paid for a complete copy off the bat, but not by much.
I do have some disc-only games floating around, but most of them aren't games I really care to have everything else for anyway. Unless it is something that I'd like people to be able to see (like Raiden Project), it's not really a big deal to me.

I just bought PS2 R.A.D per JT's recommendation, a great game. Not too hard to find without manual, but impossible to get complete locally. With Gamestop tryout policy bought the game with generic Gamestop cover. Searched other local stores and traded for one with a real cover, unfortunately no manual.
I'll keep my eye out here in case another pops up later.

Prefer complete with manual, but I grab a game whenever there is an opportunity and swap later when I find one with a manual.
