I couldn't get into Mario Kart Wii. Can't even remember the reason, I just know that after I played one cup, I put Double Dash in again and never looked back.

I agree alienjesus, but removing the Blue Shell completely is a foolserrand. I think the equalizing weapons should be culled to one or two. No need for a dozen of them.

Easy fix: take out the Mario disc and put in Sonic All Star Racing.

Potential fix: take out the Mario disc, buy a PS3, and throw in ModNation Racer.

Another fix: take out the Mario disc, and play Crash Tag Team Racing. You probably have a PS1.

The blue shell is, for me, the absolute game killer. As pointed out, it has no genuine benefit for the people behind, all it does it encourage people to drift a little bit behind first place. What has surprised me, is that despite a fairly vocal outcry, that there is no setup option to simply turn it on or off per round.

But Mario is what it is, and will forever be that way. I'll probably wind up buying the next iteration, but worthy contenders to the cart throne are making that less necessary. As pointed out, I think Sonic, despite a few quirks and some frame-rate issues, essentially nailed it. I've been playing the ModNation Racer PSP demo -- and if the big guy performs as well as the portable, I may forget about Mario completely.

Let me take a step back and talk about how Sonic implemented the blue shell, because its rather ingenious. At the top of the screen, a bar shows people's progress through the track. If you launch the big bomb, you'll see it move along that bar. It has a fairly big blast radius. When you see the bomb icon reach a person, or group of people, you have the option of detonating it. Now this, truly, can help the guy in last place. They guy in last place could aim for the leaders, for the people immediately in front of him, or could simply miss his target altogether.

My daughters (7 & 10) would disagree with you here. Gaming is not just for boys, you know. They also really like the Toads in New Super Mario Bros Wii.
I'm not saying that there shouldn't be cute characters. I'm just against characters like the ones I mentioned that have basically been invented purely to fill out the roster. Add Waluigi to that list for example.
Toad, Yoshi and Princess Peach in particular I could see being popular characters among children, and there's no way I'd ever want them out the game - they're great.

Now that I like. I would like to change what I said to this. A friend of mine bought that one recently and I still havent played it with them. Ill make it a point to play it in the near future. Modnation I am keeping an eye on aswell. I might buy a PS3 mostly for that.

ModNation is the game I'm most looking forward to this generation. After seeing that video of Sucker Punch recreating Empire City in MNR, I was floored.

As for the Blue Shell... I just always though it was a pretty poor substitute for the Lightning Bolt and Starman. While the Bolt and Star actually gives the loser a chance to come back, the Blue Shell is the equivalent of unplugging the leader's controller for 2 seconds. Just doesn't really do anything for you - it's just an annoyance for someone else.

I have seen at least 3 of these so-called "leaked E3 documents", every single one had a completely different list.

They're all BS, don't even give the games on there a second thought.

Mario Kart GP 2

it has pac-man, ms pac-man and blinky on the roster. developed both by Namco and Nintendo. It's the first ever Mario Kart crossover. I'm hoping the sequel on the console would be something like this with more crossover characters.

seems too easy when i played it on the arcade though. made especially for kids. :P

!!!

Holy crap i want to try this out. The closest arcade to me is funstop and thats at least 5 hours away. Crap. Id love to see this come to a console (with a harder difficulty if what you say is true)

I despise the blue shell. Especially when I lead for the entire race by a good 10 seconds or so and then get hit by 2 blue shells a red shell and a lightning on the final corner of the race. Fuck that shit. That's just bullshit.

That's almost akin to the cheapness of Akuma in SSF2T. Except that you stand a chance against SSF2T's Akuma, albeit slim. Like said earlier in the thread. The blue shell is the same as somebody pulling your controller out of the socket or pausing the game in the middle of a match winning combo. You lose through no fault of your own.

Thanks to the blue shell abuse on Mario Kart Wii I never got to finish the final cup on 150CC. I would struggle to win every single time, and then on the final race of the championship I would get absolutely raped on the last corner every time. That happened 5 times. I just gave up on it. It's impossible without cheating.
