arcade work....

Post by nickfil »

Working on the old arcade. Thought I'd post a little update seeing as you guys are into this stuff.

I just got the player 1 coin door working, and would've gotten player 2's to work, but it still needs a few pieces that are coming in the mail.

Also- hooked up a 18-in-1 CPS2 board. A weird piece of tech. It is advertised as not using any emulation. I think it flashes whatever game you pick to the eprom. Not sure. At any rate- the thing works and is pretty fantastic. Played a lot of alien vs predator today. Came packed with some others and the only thing I'm upset wasn't included on the board as far as CPS2 goes was the 1944 loop master and gem fighter.

Still- a pretty awesome list.

Giga Wing
Rock man 2 : The Power Fighters
Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes
Ring of Destruction : Slam Masters II
Super Puzzle Fighter II X
Hyper Street Fighter II : The Anniversary
Street Fighter Alpha: Warrior's Dreams
Street Fighter Zero 2
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Vampire Savior: The Lord of Vampire
Dark Stalkers : The Night Warriors
Night Warriors : Darkstalker's Revenge
X-Men : Children of the Atom
X-Men vs. Street Fighter
Dungeons & Dragons II : Shadow Over Mystara
Dungeons & Dragons : Tower of Doom
Alien vs. Predator
Battle Circuit

I'm going to try to make some room and build a mame cab next. Or if i come across one... get a neo geo cab.

That is a thing of beauty. I am going to attempt to create a mini-MAME cabinet this summer as part of a project that emwearz has put together over at The Old Bits. With any luck it will look half as good as this one!

I can't take too much credit. It came in really good shape. Everything was wired up correctly other than the coin doors. There are still a couple things i want to do to it.

The marque's art is cracked becuase it is *slightly* too big for the space. I need to fix that.

And I have a set of buttons and sticks to referb the player area (front end? Playfield?), but I still haven't figured a good way to replace the art on that crazy shape. Most cabs have people throw art down on a flat surface and then throw plexiglass over it for protection. This cab's player area is metal bent in a couple places so i can't really cover it with a sheet of plexi without it looking weird. I don't want to gut the buttons/sticks without changing the art as well. I want to do it all at once. Just haven't figured it out yet.

It could also use another coat of paint. heh.

'Rock man 2 : The Power Fighters
Alien VS Predator'

Really, really nice arcade unit and list of games.
The AVP arcade game and MegaMan Power Battles are two of the three games I would actually bother with an entire arcade for.

The other is 3rd Strike, which I am currently attempting to build.

I wrote off the mega man arcade stuff. Turns out it is pretty good once i tried it out. It is this bizarre mix of playing like a platformer, but being a fighter? Who does that? Megaman does.

I completely missed the boat on third strike, and III in general. It came out when i was only casually playing video games because of so many other things going on in my life. College/job mostly. So i went from alpha right to sfiv.

ha. Thanks man.

I didn't have the heart to go full mame, but wanted a little extra without having to swap b boards. This was what I ended up with. Not quite mame. Not quite cps2.

Though- still totally in envy of what you are playing fighters on! Something like that is in my future for sure.

Emulation is okay, but I would rather have the real arcade hardware or something like yours. I really like my arcade setup, but I mostly play CPS2 games because those are my favorite. Later I might get CPS2 arcade hardware set up on my Showcase cabinet and then I'll get one of those 100 in 1 arcade boards for old school games on a separate cabinet btw I ditched the LCD and put in a 27 inch crt tv in mine so it isn't all the way arcade authentic but its way better.
edit: better yet I'll get Naomi hardware in a separate cabinet!

I always envy you guys with the arcade cabs. I just love the look and feel of them, but I don't have anywhere I could put one, except in the middle of the living room, which wouldn't go over too well with the wife.
