I worked there for two and a half years and I did get to Assistant Manager...and I want that time back.

I'll tell you what I tell everyone: I liked my co-workers, I liked the majority of the customers (many knew me by name and some would only buy from me); aside from my first manager (who was awesome) I HATED every single person I worked for there. My District Manager was a complete piece of garbage and the second manager I had, while a nice guy otherwise, sucked up to him to no end.

Working there is bearable when you're a lower rung employee (aka entry level) but the SECOND that you have to deal with the morons in upper management you're gonna wanna quit or punch your DM.

Why would anyone buy games from a company that opens the sealed games?

1. There's a chance the game got scratched opening it and putting it away in the drawer
2. Not all stores keep a good stock of sealed games for people like me that request it
3. There's a chance a new game "mistakenly" went home with an employee in a used game insert. Accidental scratches happen here and there but its still "new" right?

So yeah the7k is right there is no reason to ever buy a new game from gamestop.

Just to clear something up, new games can be taken home and tried out by employees, not just used. The only rule was that they had to be more than two copies and the game must not be a hot buy recent release, example: madden 2010 release week couldn't be checked out, but you could the following week if more than enough copies available. So yeah there is a small chance that that gutted copy you bought was played by an employee.

I also love the old Toysrus way of lamnated tickets, I fussed about it in the "new Target video game cases shelves thread" if not that way what's wrong with promo cases for new.

I bought a "new" copy of tales of vesperia about two years ago, They gave me a scratched up game with a messed up case, I was pissed(their last copy). So I bought the 5 or so dollar 1 year warranty, came back the next week, said it didn't work, and they gave me a new one.

You are just working retail. You aren't getting paid to play the video games - that's when you run into trouble. Then, suddenly, playing video games = work.

It was like when I was taking art classes in college - when I had my course load filled with art history/appreciation classes, I still enjoyed drawing. However, when I had tons of courses where I had to draw everyday for class, I suddenly hated drawing. It became work.

Indeed this is why being a games tester sucks. You're being payed to play, but not play for fun. You're getting paid to play one level all day over and over with a checklist of things to do and note what happened with you walked down the stairs, or jumped down the stairs, or walked backwards down the stairs, etc.

Game Stop pays like shit and that pretty much means don't work there. If you want to work this summer and you have no skills go to restaurant and apply as a waiter. Depending on where you work and how good you are you could be making more money than you know what to do with.
