Re: Working at Game Stop
Ahh yes 7k I for got about the shitty hours. I luckily got hired as an "senior game adviser" so I get 30-35 hours a week. If you get hired as a "game adviser" I do suggest you get a second job. They only get like 5-15 hours a week at my store, and at min wage. Pressure to sell kinda sucks, but I pick my battles. If they buy used stuff and dont have an edge card, I will pitch a subscription at them. I always pitch warranties with used stuff too, but if they buy new I dont bug them to death about stuff they obviously dont need. Reservations are the hardest, and I usually wait till someone asks me about a specific game coming out before I ask them.
Re: Working at Game Stop
We only open enough new games to have at least one gutted copy on the shelf. Everything else is back-stocked and factory sealed.
Well, except for games like GTA4, Bioshock, etc., which we usually have at least 3 copies of out so we don't have to resupply the box every 5 minutes - but seriously, why would you need a factory sealed copy of games that are so obviously mass-produced?
Hell, if you are looking for a factory-sealed game, why come to GameStop in the first place? There ARE alternatives. I usually go to Toys R Us when I want a factory-sealed game that is more than a year old. It's not like the Edge Card discount applies to new stuff anyways.

@OP
Generally speaking its pretty much like any other retail job, you'll hate some things and like some things. How much you like your store really depends on who your Store manager or DM is. Please don't work there just thinking its just going to be fun and no work, those people give GameStop a bad name. Have fun but don't be lazy, be honest with customers but don't be overbearing overstating your opinions. And with the add-ons you have to sale, remember as long as you ask every single person and show you truely believe what your selling you'll make your numbers everyday and accordingly get more hours.
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

Yeah, but all those "Game Day Games" end up becoming pre-owned after the event is over, right? As such, I thought it wasn't as big a deal.pepharytheworm wrote: All those Game Deals 50% off titles are gutted. If your stores not doing it time for me to report you![]()
Re: Working at Game Stop
Plus most of them were priced lower than the used copies of the same games. Hard to complain about that.the7k wrote:Yeah, but all those "Game Day Games" end up becoming pre-owned after the event is over, right? Says something about my gamestop experience....nickfil wrote:wait- me or gamestop workers?vlame wrote:yay for dickheaded douche-bags!
either way i stick by that a job is a good idea.
I worked at a grocery store for a couple years and really hated it. It really motivated me to get to college and do soemthing, nay ANYTHING, else with my life.dlmvii wrote:It wasn't a pleasant experience. Expendable employees, low pay, etc, etc. Most coworkers were nice. I'd assume you're fairly young. Just get a job working at a grocery store or something. That job was way more enjoyable than gamestop.
The grocery store was nice because I was making more than minimum wage. Through a variety of timing circumstances, that was never (sans about 2 weeks) the case at gamestop.
Re: Working at Game Stop
dlmvii: Money's nice, but it can only do so much.
I was working Domino's delivery before GameStop, and lemme tell ya - I was raking in money hand over fist. However, the stress was by no means worth it. I had to quit because of school anyway (I was really only working there to get the money to be able to go back to college), but by my last day there, I would have quit regardless.
Hated it, so much. Honestly, I don't even know if the money was worth it - I'm pretty sure it's the reason my car is a piece of shit now.
