My parents actually did this when I was younger. They really hated stains I guess.

A lot of school is about socializing and learning how to interact with your peers. You can't deny kids a chance to socialize with their peers 6 hours a day, 5 days a week without somewhat stunting their development in that regard.

Also, I just thought the story itself was funny. Silly kid thought he was the protector of the forest.

I once worked at a bookstore in a little town in Texas. My boss there thought he was a ninja. He wore ninja clothes, balanced on stuff, meditated, and acted generally weird. He was actually kinda cool though.

One question: Was it his (the Ninja's) property? I think there is more to this story then whats being released. I like how news reports always make the "victim" (usually just the person hurt the most or didn't win) sound like they were totally innocent and doing the right thing. "I have a sword wound for no reason, I was just protecting those girls" I just don't buy it.

I am personally on the ninjas side.

When I was a young kid I was sure I was going to grow up to be a ninja master. This was during the heyday of VHS though and I rented ninja films almost weekly.

That's a pretty silly thought. Placing large groups of children together in forced groups of other children their own age is a pretty artificial social situation, and a rather recent development in society.

It's not exactly a stretch to suggest that socializing with other children of varying ages, as well as adults can be a great boon for social development. It leads to a much more natural social structure than that encountered in the normal school classroom.

I should clarify here that I do not believe that homeschooling is the right choice for everyone. I may not homeschool my own children.

Would you still want to be one?

Naw, I am pretty sure ninjitsu actually sucks as a martial art. Besides I am too lazy for all that training. I'd rather just sit in front of my computer.

Something tells me that Ninjas don't rake in the dough.

I think, and this is an over generalization, that children are home schooled for one, out of very few reasons:

1) The child is truly gifted, and no gifted schools are available in the immediate area.
2) The parents think their child is gifted, but isn't. The parents think they can give their child a better education than the school system, but they aren't trained to teach = fail.
3) The parents want to include religion in their child's education, but no private schools are available in the immediate area.
4) The parent's are sheltering wackos.
