What do you wish videogames did that they don't already do?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

What do you wish videogames did that they don't already do?

Post by J T »

We have lots of discussions here about what we like and dislike about videogames, but it's usually focused around our actual experiences we have with games, not the experiences we can only imagine. So, if someone were to make a game to please your own personal whims, what are some original things it would do?

Ah, it's the simple things in life that really matter.

A racing game where you can import your actual car using scanned data from your car's "computer chip".

That might be good for some car owners, but I don't think the old Jalopy would fare too well against any car in Gran Turismo.

Haha, second that sentiment! Feel the power of my 3 cylinder 998cc Vauxhall Corsa!! *struggles to do 0-60mph in less than a minute*.

Seriously though, I'd just like to have a game that is a seamless experience, no glitches or stupid clipping issues would be nice.

How about a game that can import your physical attributes directly? And for example if you're not fit enough you have to do a quick training session in-game to get in shape. And to add another layer of complexity, how about the game conducting a clever survey of your personality and adjusting itself and your in-game role accordingly?

I like player-run worlds. EvE was probably the greatest MMO I ever played due to the sheer amount of control and influence one could build up in the universe, or the breadth of what one could be successful at. For instance, in the corporation I was in, I only did scout work. I was good at it, I enjoyed it, and I wanted it. The other guys in the corp had their own jobs that they did because they enjoyed them, from public relations to command to running freighters and playing the markets, combined with some tried-and-true mercenary work for the right organizations from time to time. I want a world that open, where I can do a small job for cash or bring down entire player-run cities if I like.

I also enjoy mass combat, a la the FPS or MMO. In any game, you'll usually find me in the server with the largest number of players because that's what I want. 64 players in one match? Sign me up. In games that big you might not survive more than a few seconds, because you're usually under fire from the moment you start, but tha's what I like. And since the enemy's spawning continuously, you're never out of a fight. In one match of Battlefield 2142, a group of five friends and I holed up in a tower and fought off a thirty man continuous invasion with everything we had for several minutes while our ground forces got slaughtered continuously by enemy artillery fire and vehicle support. But we held on through the fight, mowing down anybody that approached us with whatever heavy weapons we could muster and eventually turned the fight around. I want that intensity in every match.

I also enjoy open-world PvP, meaning if I spot somebody I dislike out in the wilderness, I'm free to take an axe to them however I like. A friend and I used to run off into heavily wooded areas in WoW and stalk other players or hide on roadways to ambush the enemy. It was the best part of the game to me. We'd sneak up on people by hiding behind trees, buildings, fences, bushes, whatever was available, then either push them into the other player, or engage them so the other player could sneak up on them. I want a game where superior tactics and understanding of the terrain makes a definite difference.

So there you have it. I want a massive player-run world where I am free to play how I like, with intense mass combat and superior battle strategies. I want rival player-run groups battling it out for small pockets of civilization in the middle of nowhere. Basically combine EvE with Planetside and toss in some of the open world of other MMOs and some good old-fashioned guerilla warfare, and I will love that game forever.

Good luck for it happening any time soon.
