Is there anybody out there?
Re: Is there anybody out there?
Seriously, though - if I'm continuing to get the DNS message every now and then (happened again this morning), is it a problem on my end? Or is everyone having this problem?
Re: Is there anybody out there?

Just in case it is old DNS stuff on your PC, if you're on windows, do this and it might help:
WINKEY+R
CMD and click OK
IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS and hit enter
Then you can just close the box.

PM issues?
I've gotten 3 emails so far today telling me I have a PM, but Racket isn't showing any pending new messages, and none in my inbox.
Anyone else having PM issues?

Nothing like that here.Hobie-wan wrote:I've gotten 3 emails so far today telling me I have a PM, but Racket isn't showing any pending new messages, and none in my inbox.

Here's a cool site if you're ever wondering if you're the only one that a webpage isn't working for though:

Re: Is there anybody out there?
Yeah, but, wouldn't it still show Racketboy as being up? I mean, even if you pointed it directly to the forum, it IS still showing a page. That page just has nothing but a DNS message error.
Any idea when it'll stop doing this? It did it again last night. From the twitter page, it seemed like racket was saying we're out of the woods... but I know for sure I ain't out of the woods.
I've also done that /Flushdns deal several times, and it doesn't ever seem to really help.

Re: Is there anybody out there?
(if you want to assume the forum that is currently letting us post is on the correct IP) Do this:
new IP appears to be 75.127.98.153
you can install firefox addon showip to see if your browser is connecting to the old ip. if it is you can try two things;
clear local dns cache: http://kb.liquidweb.com/flush-dns-cache/
or as a last resort, do what I just did. Apparantly my ISP ignores TTL's because racketboy's dns should have propagated very quickly (he uses a 900 sec TTL from what I can tell). if you have to, edit your systems "hosts" file so it skips a dns lookup. Add two lines to your hosts file as follows:
75.127.98.153 racketboy.com
75.127.98.153 www.racketboy.com
(technically this can be one line, 75.127.98.153 racketboy.com www.racketboy.com)
Instructions here:
http://kb.liquidweb.com/dns-hosts-file/
I did that, restarted firefox, and the magical "waiting on DNS" went away. I'm glad to be back. Make sure you put your hosts file back to normal after a few days if you have to do this.
