I finally got my first book self published, and it's all about the Sega Master System. It features reviews of every Master System Game that was released in the USA, has all the relevant information about the games (release date, developer, publisher, etc), and has a handy reference guide at the end that breaks down all the games by genre.
The guide is $10 via Amazon, and it even qualifies for the free Super Saving Shipping

This is the first classic video game book that I have completed. More projects are on the horizon. I hope that everyone enjoys this, and by all means, let me know what you think.
I have a question, 10 dollars seems kind of low for a book of this awesomeness.
Is there any way to buy it some other means so you can make more of a profit, of are you gunna cash in fine through Amazon already? Just trying to support a good cause and willing to pay more so you don't get screwed by retailers taking a big chunk out.
Being part of this community, I think others like me are willing to see that more ends up directly in your pocket, and was just curious to see if there was any way this could happen.
Got: Atari 2600, Atari 7800Pro, Commodore 64, Odyssey 2, Sega Master System, NES, Genesis Models 1-3, Nomad, Game Gear, Sega CD Model 1, Sega 32x, SuperNES, GameBoys, GameBoy Pocket, GBC, Sega Saturn Model 2, GBA, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 2 Slim, Nintendo DS Lite, Xbox 360, Gamecube, PS3 Slim
Things are going pretty good, working a job I can't stand, but it gives me the time to do stuff I really enjoy, like write books about classic video games
I know $10 is kind of low, but I wanted to make it accessible to everyone. Since I'm doing this through Amazon's official self publishing place (Createspace.com), so my profit margin is actually pretty decent. Plus doing it through Amazon means that people can get the free Super Saving Shipping if they have other things they want to get.
This is also the first of my classic video game projects. At the moment I'm prepping three different projects. I'm doing another batch of my video game show ( http://www.TheVgaTV.com ) that once I get 20 episodes I'm going to do a DVD through the same service. I'm also prepping another game guide (for the TurboGrafx), as well as the first volume of what will hopefully become a quarterly/bi-monthly classic gaming publication. It is probably going to be a couple of months before that stuff is ready to go because my girlfriend and I are in the process of putting the house on the market, so most of my free time is being spent getting the house prepped. However, i do have enough time to get everything in line so that when I'm at the new place I'll be able to get these things out really quickly.
This is an awesome concept. This same format would work great for cult systems with a short but sweet catalog of games, like the Neo Geo.
One could try to do this for something like the PS or PS2, but that book would be twice the size of a phone book.
Oddly enough I am about 40% of the way through the Genesis catalog, but given that there are over 700 games for the system I have pushed that one to the back burner for the time being.

Bigger question would be Can you get it published in other countries? But I don't know how Amazon's deal works.
Either way, I'm happy to hear the book's finally out! I'm not very familiar with the Master System catalog, so picking it up would be a good idea for me. Let me get a couple of paychecks.
And keep reminding me, otherwise I'll end up not grabbing it in time, which is unfortunately what happened with Memoirs of a Digital Caveman.
This is brilliant. A total Master System compendium! I really want to order this book. As others have said, I think it would be a good idea to make this a series of books for retro consoles with smaller game libraries, like the Neo-Geo or Turbografx.

From what I have been able to gather via Amazon, this book should be available across all of the Amazons in various countries.
As far as future game guides, I am already prepping the TurboGrafx one, and assuming there is enough of a demand I'm planning on running through every system from the 7800 thru the Genesis/SegaCD/SNES Generation.
I'm also planning on keeping the costs for everything I do as low as I can. I'm not looking to get rich off of this, but if I can make enough to meet my bills and still have enough for a six pack (err..12 pack?) at the end of the week I'm totally willing to devote everything I have to this (and the show, and the quarterly/bi-monthly pub). I kinda hit a mid-life crisis and decided that it's time I devoted my life to something I love, and as fate would have it, it happens to be classic video games
This looks great, and I'll be buying a copy. It's hard to complain at $10, but are there illustrations? I imagine at that price we're talking about low res black & white images. Video games are a visual medium, so hopefully there's some color in there. I'm sure it's not easy to find a publisher that will do that for you for a reasonable price.
Anyway, congratulations. That's quite a project to have completed. Good luck with it.
