I install games on my 360. I guess I am just hoping that it is less wear and tear on the system.

and the noise coming out of the 360 is like 90% less or more
That's also a big plus for me. The 360 was disgustingly loud before Microsoft allowed hdd installs.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

I didn't know installing to the hdd was an option. Is this only on newer games?

I only have two or three games that dont install and they dont need to, All my others i have to sit and wait 25 minutes before i play it whilst it installs automatically.

I dont use it that much so its not that much of problem but i've quite a short attention span with my new consoles so when i do use them i jump between games alot which can be tiresome if theyre not already installed.
I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long.

I only have a 20GB hard drive on my Xbox 360 and currently only have space to install one whole game at a time. Under normal circumstances I keep the space for demos etc., but if there's a game I'm playing the hell out of with known benifits to having it installed (Sonic 2006... ) ten yeah, I'll have it installed.

Once the 120GB hard drives get a tad cheaper I'll get one of those as I can't see myself needing anymore space that that. Also, if I had one I WOULD install my most played games.

Just get a 250GB drive. They've dropped to about £60-70 in this country now. Also don't forget that you can use a couple 16GB USB sticks to store those demos on etc, save the 20GB (read: 15~GB) for installing games.

I always install games on my 360 because it's quieter, load times are slightly faster on certain games, but most of all, installing games means that the DVD drive isn't adding to the overall system temperature.

On PS3 I will install games to the hard drive if I get the option. Unfortunately, not all games give you this option. More and more games are using dynamic streaming of content to avoid loading times, like Soul Reaver did on the PS1. So it's not much of an issue these days, but most third party titles do suffer from lack of optimisation.

I installed a 500gig HD on my PS3 and never looked at space left again. Of course I install the games. It's a 5-10 minutes process which makes your play time easier. You can go and make something to eat in that time. What will you be doing in the extra secs it takes to load the game, if you don't have it installed?

Unfortunantely, while 60-70 squid might not seem too bad for you, that's quite a large sum of money for me... I'm going to wait untill the summer after my final exams anyway and figure out all the bits and bobs I's like to buy with some of my remaining student loan money.

My ears are pricked. I had no idea you could save anything to memory sticks. I have a 120GB USB external hard drive... Could you please PM me/ send links, guides etc. to me please?

This alone is a very good reason to install to the Xbox 360 hard drive that I failed to mention.

I can't see them dropping the price of HDD any further. £60 for 250GB is quite cheap for a Microsoft HDD. You might be able to pick a 120GB drive up for less than £60 used but be wary of buying HDDs from ebay, a lot of them are cheap chinese knock-offs, while I've heard rumours that Microsoft will ban your Gamertag/console if you use them, I don't know if they're true or not. Still, is it worth the risk?

Regarding USB memory stick support, have you been under a rock? It was a massive announcement by Microsoft last month regarding the update to allow you to use USB memory devices to save data to. However, it's limited to 16GB chunks. You can have two additional memory devices plugged into your 360 for a total of 32GB maximum.
