Component Cable on a Gamecube without a Digital Port?

Post by Red »

Does a Gamecube need to have a Digital Port to be able to use a Component Cable?

Or can the Component Cable just be plugged into the regular A/V port on the Gamecube?

Thanks.

Nope, it has to have the digital out. Luckily GC's are cheap, but I bargained with a local pawn shop and they let me swap out my none digital out model for one that had it.

Indeed. It will cost you at least double for the component cable over a used console with the digital out. But it is a sweet picture. :)

No, Gamestop sells both under same SKU. The cables are a chunk of money though. You do get 480p which is sweet.

Comparison at my LCD vs CRT signature link.

This seems like the appropriate topic to ask in: iss there any major difference between playing a Gamecube game at 480p on a Wii system than playing it on an actual Gamecube with component cables?

Not sure, read somewhere that Wii in Gamecube mode is 480i not 480p.

Gamecube with the dedicated digital cable gives a true 480p.

Not true. GC Games that support 480p are also using the same mode on the Wii when using the component cables.

Given the obscene expense of the Gamecube component cable, it makes more sense to buy a Wii and a Wii component cable.

You might spend seventy-five to a hundred dollars for a Gamecube component cable. That's half the cost of a Wii already. You can snag an off-brand Wii component cable for less than ten bucks.

Okay thanks, sorry if that mislead anyone. So Inexpensive Gamcube with expensive component or more pricey Wii with inexpensive component cable. I'll take the non-Firmware update Cube for the SDBoot/SDLoad and the reliability factor.
