I don't know. I bet microsoft has a few Halo 2 players they'd like to get rid of.Hatta wrote:It's entirely possible in principle for someone to write a virus for an Xbox. can a modded xbox get a virus
Re: can a modded xbox get a virus
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: can a modded xbox get a virus
The only reason I could think of is just to spite people with a modified Xbox. Granted, if some one wanted to write a virus for Xbox, it would be very easy to infect many systems. If it was a trojan in an emulator or something, no one would see it coming.Hatta wrote:It's entirely possible in principle for someone to write a virus for an Xbox. If people won't spend time making virus's for mac computers, they certainly won't do it for Xbox's.

Why not? More people use Xboxs than Macs.BoringSupreez wrote:If people won't spend time making virus's for mac computers, they certainly won't do it for Xbox's.
Re: can a modded xbox get a virus
What could they possibly gain from it? The vast majority of viruses out there do serve a purpose. They propagate themselves throughout networks to either garner information (credit card details, social security details, identities etc) or to create a botnet.Ack wrote:Why not? I very much doubt that there are less mac users than original xbox users... In fact I would put money on it.

Re: can a modded xbox get a virus
Back in the sneakernet days, viruses were simply a programmer being an asshole and causing people grief. There was no internet to send back information, just some asshole laughing to himself knowing that somewhere, someone's 386 was crashing or popping up a funny message on the screen.Niode wrote: What could they possibly gain from it? If I were an asshole, I might try do it just to fuck with people pirating current gen stuff that are making companies do worse and worse things with DRM and restrictions on consoles.

Didn't Sony release DRM that was basically malware?
Just Googled it...

I remember reading about this. Yet another case where intrusive DRM hurts the real customers, not the pirates.Ziggy587 wrote:Didn't Sony release DRM that was basically malware?

Re: can a modded xbox get a virus
MS writing a virus for Xbox is ludicrous idea. Even the crippling of suspect 360 HDDs has been undone. Too much legal headache.
