Indian copy of Dragon Age in Wal Mart.

Post by burningmice »

So today I went over to the states for the day and while in Wal Mart I was looking at the PC games. On a copy of DA:O one copy had the PEGI rating sytem which really jumped out to me. On the back of the game I realized it was an Indian copy of the game. It was the only one in the store that I could find.

I took the game to an employee to prevent anyone from accidentally buying it and having possible problems playing it. I wish I had a camera to take a picture of it but I didn't think I would have any reason to bring a camera and I'm not turning on a cellphone outside of Canada.

Has anyone else here found anything like this in a local store?

I have received a PAL version of a PC game before from a company based in California, but the closest I get to that is finding Canadian versions of games in Alabama. At least, I figure they're likely Canadian since they're in both English and French. I wouldn't have an issue with it being English and Spanish, but I don't think we have a large French-speaking population down here. Maybe in Louisianna, but not here.

I see Canadian versions of games in the retail stores from time to time, but since they run on our consoles, no one cares. They even use the same rating system as we do.
I did once see the Mexican version of Jade Empire for Xbox at Gamestop. Don't think they noticed when the guy traded it in. I was dissapointed, I would have bought it had it been in English.
Also, once at my local retro game retailer, I saw a PAL game is the Dreamcast section. I couldn't see how they could make the mistake, considering how distinctly different PAL DC games look from NTSC DC games. I know they didn't accept it on purpose, they've told me they won't accept imports as trade in. Maybe someone new was running the counter. I can't remember what game it was though, so no use asking.

I can understand finding Canadian copies of games in stores here and there. But finding an Indian copy caught me by surprise.
I don't really pay attention to minor region details such as US/Canada when buying games so I wouldn't really know how common it is to find US games in our stores in Canada.

I know, I really wish I had brought a camera. But really didn't think I would have any need to.

Yeah, most people don't generally think before they got to the store "oh, I'd better get the camera in case I see a foreign game in the electronics section."

That's nothing. I saw Chinese and British copies of LittleBigPlanet at the Gamestop in my local mall. Now that's freaky, especially since it's the same game!

Now that just kills what I found. I can understand an Indian copy slipping through as the box was all English the only big giveaway was the PEGI rating system. But with Chinese it would be hard to mistake for a North American copy.

I've seen 2-3 import versions of Demon's Souls for PS3 at a couple local gamestops.

IIRC, all of them were the Chinese version, the box art looked pretty cool. I might have picked one up if it weren't for the online region separation issues.

Actually, I see a hell of a lot of American import DS games in many second hand shops, ESPECIALLY CEX.
