Having trouble with Passport Plus III for Nintendo 64...

Post by Original_Name »

I picked up a copy of Sin & Punishment and what's called a Passport Plus III so I could play the JAP game on my US hardware. The hardware is basically like a Game Genie except that it has a slot in the back that you plug a cartridge from your region into in order to use it as a boot cartridge to play the cartridge from the foreign region that you plug into the top (I can provide pictures if this confuses anyone). I'm using my functional Super Mario 64 as a boot cart with Sin & Punishment plugged into the top -- the Action Replay menu comes up, but when I boot the game, the screen just turns to black. What's going on? Does this thing only work for PAL games or something? Is it just my Sin & Punishment cartridge?

I have an adaptor also. Two carts, twice the contact headaches.

Few options here on an older thread.

I think you can just jam a soldering iron into the tab parts inside by the cartridge slot. I think that will work unless you have gamebit screwdriver to open it up.

I'm pretty sure that the only region protection is the physical cart difference between US and JP games, so the only part of the passport that you need is the passthrough, so maybe see if it'll boot up without the extra cart.

You could also just break the tabs in the cart slot so that JP game will fit, that'd probably be the easiest thing to do.

Or just click the link on my earlier reply above.

All this has already been discussed, four pages worth.

Since the Japanese cart doesn't need to see a 'correct' lockout chip, maybe just try with S&P plugged in and no piggyback cart? Will the passport work like that?

Thanks alot for the link, CRTGAMER. I believe I'll pick myself up a gamebit and switch the back out with this old copy of Hybrid Heaven I have. Shame I blew the money on this Passport Plus -- I can't think of much use I'll have for it, unless I decide to try out Rakuga Kids perhaps, but I only have a passing interest in that title. I tried plugging just the Sin & Punishment cart into it as suggested, but no luck. I'll just have to pick up a gamebit. Thanks, guys!
