You know what pissed me off is that it DID have online play, yet a whopping SINGLE GAME (pso)took advantage of it.BoringSupreez wrote:That's not the only reason. Part of it was that the Gamecube was rather a disappointment after the awesomeness of the SNES and N64. And it missed out on a lot of good multiplatform games that only Xbox and PS2 got, especially later in the generation. Examples: Burnout 3, Burnout Revenge, Black, Timeplitters: Future Perfect, Star Wars Battlefront, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Max Payne, Mercenaries, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, etc. It didn't have online play, making the Ghost Recon games severely handicapped on the system. And Splinter Cell games were always gimped on the GCN, partly due to no online play and partly due to the controller with not enough buttons.Ack wrote:Yeah, about six years ago the Gamecube got a lot of flak, primarily because it "wasn't hardcore enough," "was too kiddy," "didn't play DVDs," etc. Two of those are the same crap we've been hearing people spout about Nintendo for a while, and they're both remnants of old Sega ad campaigns.J T wrote:Does the Gamecube get hate? I haven't noticed that. At least not recently. Maybe back when it was compared directly with PS2 and Xbox.
I like the GCN. But it just didn't live up to standards set by previous Nintendo systems.

I think there was another game that took advantage of the Internet Capabilities.AppleQueso wrote: You know what pissed me off is that it DID have online play, yet a whopping SINGLE GAME (pso)took advantage of it.

Re: Why hate on Gamecube and Wii?
I personally favor my Gamecube over all my other consoles (my DC is in a close second with my Xbox1)
a couple of reasons why:
1.) The GameCube controller.
it is the best damn controller *I've* used (from the "new generation" ) (PS2 controller being the worst, IMO)
2.) First party titles/exclusive titles
Zelda, Metroid, Mario, RE-remake Luigi's Mansion, FF- Crystal Chronicles, etc. and *most important of all*!!! Animal Crossing!!!!
3.) Family Friendly
GameCube applies not only to *me* as but also to my (eventual) children; since the GC has "family friendly" titles (w00t??)
4.) Fun.
Nintendo has always been about *having fun*
you won't find any "professional league of gamers federation making $1 per CoD4 session
why?
because GC is "pick up and PLAY!" kind of console (as is Wii, from what I hear)
5.) Innovation
Nintendo has "always" tried to be innovative with their consoles/games
they try things, which others dare not, or fail to (SEGA) execute
sure, there's an abundance of accessories, but the same could apply to shovelware for other consoles
anyone bitching about "too many is too much", has got it all wrong
there's nothing "wrong" in having "too many" things for your console
nobody (read: NOBODY) is *forcing* you to buy these accessories, but they *are* available for those who like "gimmicky" stuff *and* they have potential of becoming "collector's items" (who has collected the most Nintendo accessories "challenge" )
do note, that these 5 points are for the GC (NGC, GCN or whatever yous Americans call it), since I don't own a Wii (*only* due to lack of funds, I got my 360 by trading a PS2, the second one I found in a dumpster and the third one cost me 1/3 of a Wii (used))
the Gamecube was perhaps the most "limited" console in terms of hardware, but it's the "all-round-console", which applies to "hard-core" gamers and "casual" gamers alike
be the gamer in question 5 years old (Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon, etc.) or 30+ (Twilight Princess/Resident Evil remake, etc.) it's got something for "everyone"
Nintendo has never been about "amazement" it's been about "amusement"
