Re: broken gamecube controller?
Is it a 3rd party controller? Or is it an official Nintendo Controller?
I think you just have to find another controller that you know is working (borrow from a friend?) and compare the two.
I remember buying my first Gamecube about 2 years ago off Craigslist. I knew nothing about cubes. The woman included 6 controllers, mostly no-name crap. Just about all of them were crap/defective except for one. They just don't hold up as well as the 1st party stuff.

Check for corrosion on either the pad plug or the system ports.

Stupid question, but do the Gamecube controllers made for the Wii work on the proper Gamecube as well? If so, I might keep an eye out for some cheap ones.

as long as they have the Gamecube's plug, they work on the Gamecube.MikeyW wrote:Stupid question, but do the Gamecube controllers made for the Wii work on the proper Gamecube as well? If so, I might keep an eye out for some cheap ones.

So nothing works at all on the controller? It could be a broken wire or two somewhere. I probably would take a multimeter and check the pins. Compare your results with a working controller.optmusprimenumber wrote:it's the official pack in indigo controller. i shoulda said that. i have one that does work (platinum), another official one, but the indigo one does nothing.

Re: broken gamecube controller?
cool. def appreciate troubleshooting advice. this multimeter thing, i think i have one, not mine, but its around... am i supposed to connect pins in the port with pins in the plug with the multimeter and see what happens? i'm new to this sort of action. i was planning on taking it apart at some point to see if anything is fried or disconnected, but i'll try that out too. might you be able to provide some details as to how this operation should go? that'd be cool. cheers.

Only way of verify continuity of the controller cable is from the plug to individual wire solder point at the PBC, inside the controller.optmusprimenumber wrote:cool. def appreciate troubleshooting advice. this multimeter thing, i think i have one, not mine, but its around... am i supposed to connect pins in the port with pins in the plug with the multimeter and see what happens? i'm new to this sort of action. i was planning on taking it apart at some point to see if anything is fried or disconnected, but i'll try that out too. might you be able to provide some details as to how this operation should go? that'd be cool. cheers.
Checking between plug contacts or plug to port will do nothing.
Try Hobie's idea first, clean those plug contacts.
