Yeah, not gonna happen, my mom's even more broke than I am.Hobie-wan wrote:All of my older spare drives are gray or beige too, though the Sony I've got is a 140, not a 220. If you're getting vinyl dye anyway, just do the bezel and tray cover too. IMHO it will look interesting to have a white tray hiding inside.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Also just out of curiosity does anyone have a broken or spare/for parts black Sony CRX220A1 CD-R/RW burner?
I know that when this drive was sold new in stores that it came with both a black Bezel, Tray and Drive door along with the beige set in the box. My burner works great and I see no need to throw away a perfectly good CD burner that I could use in my new machine (As my secondary drive of course), so it'd be appreciated if anyone could help me out by providing me with the black bezel/tray etc....
For the can of air, ask your parents to buy one what you can borrow with the condition that you'll clean out their PC for them first. Just remember, hold all fans still when using canned air. The whizzing siren sound is neat, but spinning them that fast kills the bearings.
Is my old PC case still compatible with modern stuff?

DrCirno wrote:Just bring it by my place, I have an air compressor for these things. :VI'm finally gonna have to get myself a can of compressed air to clean out the PS. I've been holding off on it for a while to be honest as $5-$7 for a can of air is pricey for a broke guy like me.

Why didn't I just think of that in the first place?

True enough, as do I, however, since cost is a factor, it is a viable alternative. If it was not I would have suggested some of the modular picoitx computers but the fingerboards cost a good couple hundred a pop. But who doesnt like a fully capable pc that fits inside of a coffee mug?Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Meh, I like my things massive and modular as hell.

I remember seeing people building PC's inside of PS1 cases (With a working drive) and cereal boxes withe those a few years back.
After a test fit with a dead mobo though, we've determined that it'll all fit just right without any real spacing issues.
My ventilation issues have been resolved as well. All I'll really need to do is sacrifice my vertical HDD sled (Not really a problem seeing as this case has four HDD mounting brackets.) on the front of the case to place either one or two large fans into it's space by the front vent and punch out my extra rear fan bay for another rear fan.

New case for a second retro shock comp. It's an old baby AT case, but I'm thinking I can comfortably fit a mini ATX board in here comfortably and keep up the ventilation with a pair of 5.25'' drive bay fans in the front and some PCI slot fans in the back.
Big props go to Hobie for all the help he's been giving me with this project.
