Firecore Genesis clone system does not save games

Post by galaxy_ranger »

I've had the Firecore system for a few weeks now and have tried out the following cartridge games on it:

Might and Magic
Warsong
Eternal Champions
Shining Force
Shining in the Darkness
Landstalker
Sword of Vermillion
Phantasy Star 2
Phantasy Star 3

Compatibility-wise, all of them work fine except for Eternal Champions, which flickers too much to be playable. I have never played it on a real Genesis before, but the flickering is bad enough that I'll assume that it was not meant to be that way. The other games work fine graphically, and the sound/music is fine too. I was expecting much worse video and audio quality based on reviews and comments on this system, but aside from Eternal Champions I was pleased with the results.

However, I discovered that it does not seem possible to save your game while using a Firecore! I can load the saved game files that were already on these used cartridges, but I cannot save or delete save game files. So playing RPGs on a Firecore is not really feasible.

Given that I am unable to play a true Genesis on my tv due to display issues, is anyone aware of another Genesis clone that allows the use of original Genesis controllers (and that is likely to not have the same saved data issue as the Firecore)?

I have heard that this system is compatible with original Genesis controllers, but have heard reports of unnatural slowdown issues during gameplay:

Any ideas?

What are the issues preventing you from using a real genesis?

Hi again,

This is my forum post on my Sega display issues on my tv:
http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... =1&t=20573

Tried everything, talked to everyone, and had a lot of great suggestions from a lot of great people, but the result was the same every time. If my tv model had more configuration options it would be a matter of changing a few settings around, but sadly it is not possible (and this was confirmed by Toshiba tech support).

It certainly wouldn't be my preference to be playing on a clone system over an original, but the clones seem to work fine on my tv, so they are kind of a necessary evil for me.

.....

I stated that if I had a choice, I would play an original Genesis instead of a Genesis clone.

The original does not work on my tv due to display issues that are described in the forum link I provided (the screen scrolls vertically over and over again).

To me, clone systems are a necessary evil, in that while they are not as good or respected as the original machines, they do work on my tv.

This isnt a direct solution, but one that I used because of similar problems with my plasma display.

I put a wanted advert in the freebies section of gumtree (online freead side like craigslist) for a free CRT colour TV, a very kind person gave me a Panasonic Quintrix 24" widescreen with remote in excellent condition. Now everything works, looks great and I can play light gun games too.

This may or may not be a viable solution for you, but something to consider. If you can afford the space for a small CRT set I would say its a much better option to using a clone machine, and doesnt hog the main tv set.
