Why doesn't Microsoft just put up Halo 2 on XBLA?

Could someone copy and paste the contents of the gizmodo.com article into a post for me? I've tried multiple times to get the page to load, and it just sits there not doing anything each time.

There's a point where maintaining support for a product actually loses the company valuable resources. Nobody's buying new copies of Halo 2 and Microsoft still gets their Live Gold money either way.Weekend_Warrior wrote:Why doesn't Microsoft just put up Halo 2 on XBLA?
Of course that doesn't negate the fact that once online vendors discontinue their service, people permanently lose their product or part of it. It would be nice to release server code or make it available to third parties which are interested in continuing the service (as long as it's nonprofit), but it seems the industry is moving away from such niceties and even the PC is rapidly losing its once legendary dedicated servers feature. In the case of Live it would be too much of a concession from Microsoft anyway.
It's amusing how some cling to certain online games when it's the very nature of the medium that dictates a "Move On" attitude.

But a lot of people still want to play this game. There's a market there. I'm sure they could put it up on XBLA as a "Classic Game" for five bucks and still make it worth everyone's while.Pulsar_t wrote:There's a point where maintaining support for a product actually loses the company valuable resources. Define "a lot". I'm fairly certain MS have deemed the old Live unfeasible through their accountants and various "market experts".
There's even a bigger market to sustain Windows XP for example, but to MS that's unfeasible because it hurts the propagation of their newer OS products.

I wonder how long they will last, i'm sure MS is watching as well to see. I have to give them credit, they are persistent.
Power outages aside, I wonder how long a XBOX would last running 24/7. I know they are built a whole lot better than the 360's are (aside from some of the flaky DVD drives), but 24/7? On a console that is 5-9 years old on average?

They're no different than standard PC architecture. It is essentially a PC in a box with a fancy BIOS. So as long as it's kept well ventilated it should run for quite a long time.

I'm talking about putting up Halo 2 as a downloadable game via XBLA on 360. Then people could still play it?Pulsar_t wrote:Define "a lot". I'm fairly certain MS have deemed the old Live unfeasible through their accountants and various "market experts".

Do they have a dedicated site to see who's still on? I just want to see how long this goes and when people get dropped.
