[Video] A tour of the Manitou Springs, CO "Penny Arcade"

Post by wip3outguy7 »

I'm not sure if the place is actually named the Penny Arcade. There are no official signs for the arcade other than the "Penny Arcade" sign that leads to a room with older amusement machines and lots of pinball machines.

All of the cabs were up and running the day before but my wife and I didn't have enough time to play. There was a snow storm that night and that is probably the reason all of the outside machines were off the next day (when this video was taken).

Awesome. What is the story with that place? Looks super clean and taken care of, is it an old place or is it a newer place?

I live pretty close to Funspot but have never been yet. We plan to go this summer.

I'm not sure on the story. I know the place has been around for a long time, probably since the 1980s. My wife and I stopped by Manitou Springs on a road trip back in 2008 and the arcade looked just as it does in my video. We didn't have time to stop and play then, unfortunately.

While staying in the Cliff House hotel on this trip, I overheard a conversation between a guest and an employee. The guest apparently had been raised in Manitou and was back on business. She mentioned she would ride up to the arcade on her bike as a kid. The lady looked to be in her 30s. She also went on to say that the arcade had been owned by the same man since opening and that people had offered to buy the place from him countless times but he always turned them down.

That arcade looks amazing. It's a shame there weren't more people in it, though. I hope it's still around in a couple of years!

Please tell me that video was taken early in the day on a weekday or something...

^Oh, it is definitely "off season". I have heard the place is extremely busy in the summer.

I wish there was someplace like that near me. I can't believe how many cabinets they had there. Great video!
