reconditioning a LaserActive

I have not used my LaserActive in over a year, and I think I have to clean. It is beginning to squeak when I open/close the tray and sometimes the carts won't load.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what grease to use on the rails?

And, I want to use CRC spray to clean the contacts on the PAC, but do you guys think it will be to abrasive? In case you guys don't know what it is, it is used to clean MAF sensors.

There's grease for plastic gears. I believe it is just white lithium grease. That should work fine.

HUGE emphasis on WHITE lithium lube (there ARE other colors, this one works best for your problem)

Lithium grease works great for the plastic gears. Use sparingly to avoid attracting dust.

CRC is overkill for PBCs, for the PAC connector Contact cleaner such as this.

I've rebuilt quite a few laserdisc players in my day. Not a laseractive specifically, but it doesn't even have a double sided player so it should be easier.

The previous posters were correct, White Lithium Grease.

Before you start lubing the whole thing up, clear out all the dust and old grease. Take note where the previous grease was at. You probably want to keep an eye on the laser, because if you accidentally get a grease print on there it will take forever to clean. Feel free to use plenty of grease on the plastic rails, but don't over do it on the smaller gears.

Cleaning the motors is a whole nother ball game If the discs are spinning fine, do not touch it. If you can clean the connectors easily, go ahead.
