Sound issue on portable CRT

Post by MikeyW »

Not sure where to post this, but here we go.

I'm currently at university and am playing my games on a portable BUSH CRT television. The picture quality is fine, apart from its size, but the audio is awful. Every note or sound that comes out of it sounds muffled and horrible, it's driving me bonkers. Thing is, it has no headphone jack or anything like that, so I can't hook up any external speakers or headphones or nowt.

What I was wondering is if it would be possible to open the thing up and do a quick fix or mod to make the sound quality better or add some sort of output for speakers.

Any ideas?

Does it say a model number anywhere on it? That might help us diagnose the issue.

I imagine that a speaker in a portable TV is terrible by default. Do you have a stereo you can send your console sounds to instead?

I currently have Creative Inspire 2.1 speakers that I bought a few years ago hooked up to my laptop, which I was hoping to move over to the tele if I could.

I won't be back at my house untill tomorrow, so I won't be able to check for a serial number untill then. If it helps, I'm currently playing my Dreamcast, fat PS2, NES, and Master System 2 on it, non of which are modded in any way (at least, if they are I don't know about it.)

Now I'm back home, I've had a look at the back of the tele for serial numbers and whatnot. However, the back label is riddled with number, so I don't know which one you have in mind.

The Serial Number is as follows: 98021942000E73118

As Hobie pointed out, sound could be the limitation of the portable CRT.

Do you have another audio source to confirm if the console cable is not the problem?

No I don't, but as the problem is apparent with my PS2 plugged in via scart, as well as my NES, master system II and Dreamcast via the aerial, I assumed the problem is with the crappy tele speakers.

Yeah, I'd just pipe the sound output from the consoles into the other speakers.

I'm really not too adept at this kind of thing, and I would have tried what you've just suggested but... I have no idea how

Maybe a pair of portable amplified computer speakers?
Any computer speaker setup, normally has a mini headphone jack.

You need two of these between the red and
white console cables and adaptor below.

Just plug red-white cables with RCA to mini headphone adapter.
