Glad to help.

Not 100% positive if that S-Video-twin RCA would work but all the connections look right, worth the small cost to try. For audio a regular RCA cable with Y-Cable splitter from your console, if you go for the Mono 1702 monitor. Or instead you could hook up separate small amplified speakers such as labtechs. Cheaper then that hard to find 1084S monitor.

Did you have any other pics of that black 1702 from the the other thread?

Okay thanks, if you get that cable and monitor let us know if it works. That site may be good source for anyone else going this route. I have my spare 1701 as a "link" gaming monitor for two consoles. I have been using the front composite connection, may go with a set of those back S-Video adaptor cables.

CRT, if I get one I most certainly will.

What do you think of $75 for this from a local seller?

I figure I can sell the computer and floppy for about $40 (hopefully) so the monitor comes to like $35.

I see one on ebaY going for decent coin when you add in shipping.

Thoughts?

Hello again from the other thread. That Craigslist post, the monitor looks like my Commodore 1902A. It has the rear "S-Video" RCA connections and RGB, no front composite, I think there is rear composite. Great color monitor and there is a green screen option button for clearer green only text. Be interesting to play Mario all green like the old Gameboy.

Could also be a 1901.

I'd like to butt-in this thread and add a question of my own. Do light guns have any problems with the monitor? Whenever I shoot with my SMS light phaser, the screen noticeably flashes black with a white line AFTER it picks up the shot. I'm guessing I simply need to adjust vertical hold since this flash moves the screen up a bit, but I may be wrong.

1701-1702 are just a regular composite monitor. Any lightgun should work fine. Composite in the front.
You can make up a special cable for S-Video to use the back Chroma-Luma connections.

If I remember later after playing Borderlands, I'll give mine a go. I have Shooting Gallery and Gangster Town.

Interestingly, I'm running into a different issue. On the enter your name screen where you shoot letters in Gangster Town, the hits shear to the right, getting worse as I go down the screen. So A is pretty dead on. On the far right of the top row, it is a little off. The whole next rown down is worse, then I can't even shoot when I'm pointing at O which starts line 3 and the end of that line is way off. I can barely hit the tops of a few letters on the 4th row and I can't shoot the delete or end buttons at all. As I said, 2 different phasers act exactly the same way. With 2 players, they act the same as well. Though I didn't even know you could play 2 players at a time which is very cool.

Shooting gallery seemed accurate, but I could only shoot objects in the top half of the screen. This is easy to tell because you damage the wall if you miss a target. It seems that maybe there's an issue with the timing on the 1702 as far as light guns go, at least using a composite cable. The SMS supports 256×192 and 256×224 resolution, so I wonder if this was the difference between the 2 games behavior. :(

The other part you need for above.

Or you can make one.
