Giant NES Box Art Comparison, 140+ Games

Post by timewarpgamer »

This time, no commentary from me, just a brief introduction and then one giant page full of boxes. Looking forward to seeing your observations and opinions.

Can't believe that Bomberman II was called Dynablaster in the EU.

I am missing a few boxes, and there are a few I'd prefer higher resolution scans as well, so any help with the following would be greatly appreciated:

Baseball Stars (JP)
Batman (JP)
Battletoads & Double Dragon (EU)
Bubble Bobble 2 (JP)
Cocoron (JP)
Lagrange Point (JP)
Maniac Mansion (JP)
Gimmick (JP)
Pac-Mania (US)
Hebereke (JP)
I run the 8/16-bit retro site TimeWarpGamer and if you want to follow the latest updates, check me out on Twitter.

Thanks for the comparisons! Japanese covers usually seem more appealing to me

Dyna? Why Dyna? What's that even mean?

[Searches the intertubes]

Ah yes, Dyna basically means power. So we have Powerman??? Just seems like another time a game was renamed for no apparently good reason.

Well, it's not so strange since there was a PC game "Dyna Blaster" back in the time...But I think as well that they should have been using just one name for these games.

Why are the Bombermen boxing on the cover of the japanese version? Those Final Fantasy box arts are incredible.

Another great post! :)

Man, is it me or is it an absolute travesty that they changed the Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy covers for their US releases? Akirya Toriyma's art has such a great charm to it! And those Final Fantasy covers are just beautiful.

Also, the Blaster Master cover in the US has always looked odd to me. The original is much more interesting, and would have caught my eye on the store shelf as a child.

Wow, I loved seeing those. I actually liked the US covers better the majority of the time, but I'm not sure how much of that is due to nostalgia.

Japan's cover for Solstice was awesome though. The US should have kept that.
