Method one is a good permanent way to set it up. If you don't have a spare NIC on your computer, you can buy a PCI card for $10 or $15 and drop it in there. Get a crossover cable to go from your spare (or new) NIC to the PS2 modem. Make sure it's a crossover cable, a straight through cable wont work.
Method 2 works fine too, but it requires you to take the hard drive out of your PS2 which can get annoying to do after a while. The guide linked above says to put the hard drive on an IDE channel on your computer, but it's easier to put it in a external hard drive enclosure so you don't have to power off and open up your computer.
Not sure why you are recommending this product when you can use FreeMcBoot & HDLoader which is free if you have a suitable product to install it or find a FreeMcBoot Installer and just pay for the cost to ship to/from ($3-4). Best of all, FreeMcBoot can work if you have a PS2 with a dead laser.

HDAdvance offers no advantages over FreeMcBoot.

Don't pay for HDAdvance. HDloader is more compatible and free.

I use HDAdvance mainly because less steps to start a game. Just power on and go. I do have HDLoader in the HD for the tricky games such as God of War.
I suggest you guys read my post again. I was not advertising the product. The link I provided has the two ways to dump ISO's onto the hard drive, which is what this thread was asking.
