anybody else notice game prices lately?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

seriously, I will never get it.
Are you kidding? I would sacrifice my family and 90% of the members of this forum to get a copy of earthbound.
I didn't like it. I wouldn't do any of those things to get a game.
Except, like maybe a baten kaitos sequel.

I don't see a problem here. Games like Air Raid and Stadium Events go for a lot of money because they're very rare and some people think they can get make money off of them in the future. That's okay. It's not like these are great games that are being withheld from the public. They're just rare collectables. These stories about the ridiculous sales of these games are just written so people can shake their heads at the stupidity of it all. I would not recommend that anyone heavily weight their investment portfolio in video games, to say the least. And as for anyone reading these stories and thinking they'll make a fortune off their old common carts, well, a rude awakening is in store for them.

As someone else said, it is a damn rare retro game that goes for more than it originally sold. And that's before you factor in inflation. Overall, one reason retrogaming is a fabulous hobby is because it is so cheap. I was feeling kind of depressed a couple months back and started buying old games that I'd always wanted, to cheer me up. One hundred bucks later, I had 20 awesome games and a big smile on my face. Not a bad deal.

It's a shame the emulation cycle is slowing down thanks to complex console hardware. If you're not too finicky about having the physical version of the game you can play virtually anything that was released before 2001. Of course to some it's a matter of religious-like ideology

I fell asleep in the middle of that sentence and had to wake up again to finish it. I hated business school.
JT, you would have been great in business with the right professors. In short, what dedalusudusudusudus........... said was:

no, i'm with you. this is all too prevalent. we've talked about this at length on this forum but i wanted you to know that you're not alone in thinking this. see the WTF/LOL ebay/craigslist thread for more examples. or just check your local craigslist, i'm sure you'll find some outrageous stuff.

i had an argument with a dude last night who told me that he got excitebike for NES at a flea market for 50 cents. i told him that was a good find and he said "yeah, totally, they've got it at gamestop right now for $85!!"

E-Bay and Amazon has been a blessing and a curse. Finding that rare game you want but at a high price.

Swap Meet and Goodwill a pain at times but for me worth it to find a hidden random treasure.
