Re: Looking for Mech games.
If you're looking for a good SNES game, checkout the under-rated gem Metal Warriors. It plays more or less the same as Cybernator, but has an awesome 1 on 1 multiplayer. Top that off with six different mechs (which are all very unique), and you have the best undiscovered SNES two-player game.
Re: Looking for Mech games.
Speaking of SNES, the SNES Mechwarrior was pretty fun. I haven't played the PC version of that game, though.

Oh no, it's very much alive and released. And it's friggin awesome. Not only do you get Mechs, but you get tanks, VTOLs, and Aerospace. It's a real combined-arms game.GSZX1337 wrote:I thought that got cancelled because of MechWarrior Not 5.And I cannot recommend Mechwarrior Living Legends for Crysis enough.
The Steel Battalion controller can work on a lot of games if you get a joystick mapper for it.
I'll see your Mech2 intro and raise you the GBL intro:Plus it has one of the greatest game intros ever imo (

Man I hope that wasn't the entire controller setup you lost.blackmagepwns wrote:What are some awesome games where you play as mechs? For any system out there.![]()
And I have had steel battalion before, but I gave it to one of my friends when he moved.

Might I suggest Heavy Gear II? It's a decade-old mech game for PC that features a lot of customization and varying weapons. I enjoyed it a lot back when I was playing it heavily.
Re: Looking for Mech games.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Zone of the Enders 2! The controls are a dream. This is one of those rare games where you just play it because it feels so good to play. The story doesn't even matter, you just can't wait to jump back into another battle.
I will also second the Cybernator recommendation. It's one of the best side-scrolling mech games out there. Actually, its one of the best SNES games out there, period.
To add something that hasn't been said yet, I would also highly recommend R.A.D. Robot Alchemic Drive on the PS2. It has a really unique control scheme where you control each arm of the mech with an analog stick and each leg with an L or R button. You also control a character that is remote-controlling the mech, so you have to make sure your character doesn't get squashed in the battle of the giant building-sized mechs. No other game makes your mech feel so bulky and clumsily destructive like something from a Godzilla movie. It's a wonderful and often overlooked game. The voice acting is laughably bad, which is also a major positive or a major weakness, depending on your sense of humor. I learned about this game from the Hidden Gems list on this site and I'm very glad I picked it up.

Oh, and if you want to go in a completely different direction, there's the Front Mission line of strategy RPGs. I enjoy them, but I don't know if its something you're looking for.

It's probably just because I could never had it back in the day, but GBL never clicked for me as much as the main game, that's how nostalgia goes though.MrPopo wrote:I'll see your Mech2 intro and raise you the GBL intro:Plus it has one of the greatest game intros ever imo (
You could also check into Phantom Crash for xbox. It's all arena based with lots of customization, it's repetitive sometimes, but fun. There's a quite a few Gundam games about as well, I've only tried a couple myself. Side Story 0079 for Dreamcast didn't do much for me, it has decent reviews though. I played a tiny bit of Federation vs Zeon DX and it was pretty fun, but I only played it briefly. The internet tells me it came out on pc, ps2, and xbox. However there's a game that's either the same, or extremely similar for Dreamcast.
Oh yeah, and Gundam Battle Assault 2 on PSX, it's quite the fun fighter.
