I just bought (another) Sega Saturn

Post by Reprise »

As some of you probably remember, my Sega Saturn sadly broke. Rather than order parts, try to fix it and mess around inside, I decided to just buy a new one. £27, boxed (although the box isn't brilliant condition) including postage (with one game too). Seemed like a fairly good deal to me, so I went for it. Hopefuly should get it this week. Just hope it doesn't get damaged in the post (I HATE buying consoles online as I'm pretty paranoid).

Just thought I'd share this with you all. I'm glad to be getting a new Saturn soon. I'll finally be able to play through Panzer Dragoon Saga again :D Well, once my exams are done with.

It seems to be that it's usually cheaper to order a new console than go through the effort of ordering parts and fixing it.

One day
some one will wake up and his Saturn just broke
so he goes on ebay to order one
but there are no more Saturns in this world, because there are only so many and one day they will all die, break, malfunction

Lol yes, I fear that day for all my consoles :(

I treat my consoles as well as I can, and keep them in great condition. But first my Dreamcast last year just randomly dies on me, and now this year my Saturn just randomly breaks on me (I hadn't even used it in about 6/7 months, so God knows why it just stopped working properly). They just seem to degrade and die eventually :/

I never understood why electronics die
specially when they are made of plastic and metal
I can understand of there is some chemicals though...
I think they do it on purpose so you buy another or buy a new kind of electronic in the future(Who would buy a new tv if his tv is just as good as new since late 1980's?)

I like emulation
Its just the same, you can get ANY game you want by download, no need to hunt down for them, pay shipping , and hardly a place to store you collection. I just wish there would be enough USB controllers that mimics the console's.

I don't think there is one for N64, Saturn 3D controller, or dreamcast.

Usually the first thing to die in electronics, assuming something doesn't overheat or get a power surge, is the capacitors. Those little cans have damp electrolyte in them. It they dry out, they fail and then your system starts acting strangely or won't work. There was a period of really bad cheap capacitors and this is why you often see GGs with sound and screen issues. There were a lot of computer motherboards that had bad capacitors for a while too.

Not quite. Pulseman on KEGA Fusion has a weird graphic glitch on the third level. It's not a little glitch either, it's these dotted line bars that fill the entire screen.
