On Mouser.com, the 27C801's range from $5-10, the cheaper ones being OTP.

Ziggy, could you list recommended eprom programmers and erasers you have used? Not to mention exact details on the 27C801's chips you used.
Did a brief search of 27C801 on mouser and the results I got are here.
