Actually, since this thing also plays Super Famicom games, maybe I can buy a Super Nintendo and the Super 8 and replace my Japanese Super Famicom with it. That way I don't lose anything. Being able to play Famicom games with RGB would be awesome. The American Super Nintendo supports RGB, right?

This used to be one of the dream items I always wanted to have, when I was a kid who only had a SNES and could not find NES systems ANYWHERE... Now that I actually have an NES, it doesn't really matter.

Unless it can play sound-expanded games like Lagrange Point. :) It's ridiculous for me to look for a Famicom JUST so I can play this game...

Since the price for this adapter is the LOWEST I have EVER seen it, I'll probably end up getting one soon.

I can't believe how cheap that GB/PS1 adapter is. I might just get one for the hell of it.

And yeah, I saw the Tri-Star for the N64 but I forgot to mention it. It didn't seem as useful to me, especially with the N64 controller.

Those mods are for the SNES 2. I was thinking about buying the first model of SNES. I guess it's safe to assume it supports RGB normally then.

Yeah. I have an SP and GB player already, but damn, for S&G I'm thinking bout it too.

Well I ordered the Super 8. I will try it on my Japanese Super Famicom and if that doesn't work, I'll look for a Super Nintendo to buy.

Please let us know if it works with the Super Famicom! I'd like to get one to use primarily on my SFC, since the 16-bit slot is wide enough for US games and could double as a passthrough.

*EDIT* I found this while searching on Google - http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~dzubera/FAQs/tri-star.faq.

According to this document, the Super 8 was originally designed for the Super Famicom, and if used with a US SNES, you'll need something to put underneath it for support (since the SNES had a raised top). Also, in order to play games with sound chips, you'll need to modify something on the circuit board for the sound to work right... *cue previous discussion here - http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 17&t=16567

Shit! It uses it's own A/V and doesn't do RGB. What a pile of shit. It could still be handy to use on my old SDTV but I bought it thinking I could play Famicom games with RGB on my HDTV. Maybe I can contact the seller and cancel somehow. Thanks for the information.

*edit*
The seller was nice enough to let me cancel (^_^);

edit: Wow, the seller let you cancel? I figured yours would already be in transit because mine came in today (and I think you ordered 1 day after I did).

Yeah, it definitely works with a Super Famicom. It's definitely loose in the SNES's cart slot. I would suggest ejecting the Super 8 when plugging or unplugging carts from it, you can probably damage the SNES's cart slot easily from moving this unit around too much. It has a death grip on NES carts.

Anyways, I only played three NES games on it so far. First I put in Castlevania just to see how it works. Then I wanted to test out games that I know don't work right on clone systems, so I played Castlevania 3 and Kirby's Adventure. I was able to play both games just fine.

The only thing I noticed in CV3 was that you could barely hear the boss moan when you defeat him/her. I didn't notice anything else with the sound, but I've also been playing the Famicom version so all the sounds now sound muffled to me. It runs fine though.

Kirby's adventure gave me black and white levels, but Kirby was still pink. All the sounds appeared to be working alright, and it ran just fine.

I wish I had some Famicom carts to test it out with, but I don't. I didn't bother testing it's SNES capability since I'll probably never play a SNES or SFC game through it. It would be useful for some one with a SFC to play American SNES games though.

edit: I just noticed something else. Mine has no RF. It has the letter's 'RF' above a hole where the RF would have been. I'm guessing it use to have RF but they removed it from later models to save money.
