Fast frame rate when watching DVDs on an HDTV?

I just finished setting up my new HDTV and watched through a couple of my anime DVDs, and I noticed something odd. The video seems like it's moving faster than it's supposed to be in some spots, especially in spots with fast motion (like a movie on fast forward) while the audio is normal speed. I'm not sure why this is happening, since they played fine with my previous HDTV. My new TV's resolution is 1080p, while my old one was 720p - does the resolution change affect how SD content will look?

I'm also thinking this has something to do with the frame rate being changed somehow, or maybe something to do with the refresh rate of the TV (120 Hz), or something else I haven't thought about. Google did not help me here.

It will be your eyes getting use to the refresh rate, I remember when my dad got a 100hz TV, shit looked really weird for awhile, you get use to it.

Almost like a blur effect where there is a lot of motion on the screen?

Which cable connection are you using for the DVD player?

Maybe something with the upscaling DVD to that 1080p mode. Check Screen Settings in the setting Menu, try different options available? My Wega for example offers Interlace, Progressive and Cinemotion options.

I'm pretty sure its the 120hz in action. I think some TV's have an option to turn it off but I'm not 100% sure. It takes getting used to.

You all realise that you can only ever see 24fps right?

Yea, but if you look at a 100hz TV then a 50hz TV, you can instantly notice t looks much more fluent.

I don't know about you, but I can tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps when I'm playing a game. Film gets away with 24fps because of motion blur. More info here.
