Being that I was one of the 8 or so people unfortunate enough to have owned the original, I was somewhat intrigued by the announcement of a new Blob game.
IIRC, I had a Nintendo Power that had some info on the GBA version. A couple months later, the GBA version was gone from the 'upcoming games' list and a DS version was in it's place. After reading about technical and funding issues, the game was scrapped. I believe they had problems porting the title to DS. However, within a year or so, Majesco announced that they'd returned to the project, leading to the eventual release of the Wii version.
All in all, I'm glad the Wii version was the one released.

what? I loved the original when I was a kid. I'm pretty sure there's quite a few people that are fans of the original.HellHammer wrote:Being that I was one of the 8 or so people unfortunate enough to have owned the original,

I liked A Boy and His Blob, but I probably wouldn't have been as happy if I had payed $50 for it in 1991 rather than $2 for it in 2006.noiseredux wrote: what? I loved the original when I was a kid. I'm pretty sure there's quite a few people that are fans of the original.

I dont know man. You were different in 1991. So was I. I hadn't seen anything like that game in 1991. So it was really awesome.Limewater wrote:I liked A Boy and His Blob, but I probably wouldn't have been as happy if I had payed $50 for it in 1991 rather than $2 for it in 2006.noiseredux wrote: what? My problem with it is just that it's really, really short. Everything in the game was new and exciting, but there just wasn't enough of it. I think when I beat it my start-to-finish playtime was maybe ten minutes. And it didn't take all that long to figure out (except for one annoying puzzle in the caves that just ticked me off). Other adventure games around that time offered a lot more gameplay.

Don't get me wrong, the original isn't an awful game and I'm far from a graphics whore, but when I got it for a gift instead of something like Mario 3 or Castlevania 3, I wasn't exactly ecstatic. Even in comparison to the other NES games I owned, A Boy and His Blob played like a disappointment and looked like a damn 2600 game. Though, I appreciate it much more nowadays.

I guess we just thought differently, even then. I had a lot of games, and found that the originality of Boy And His Blob really made it stand out. It was bizarre, and I liked that. Like Maniac Mansion. Etc.
Re: Jelly's Cosmic Adventure (GBA)?
Heh. I actually thought that the backgrounds in A Boy and His Blob looked really good. Playing the game at my cousin's house in the early nineties, the city background and the trees on Blobolonia looked surprisingly realistic to me. I can't really think of too many other examples where NES artists tried to go for some sort of realism and the results looked good.
